A year where I travelled more, starting in January from Jingdezhen and Hong Kong, trekking in Nepal late March, New York in July and New Zealand in November.
M returned from 3.5 years of study abroad. We survived the long-distance relationship although we were uncertain that we could. During her studies, she discovered a new passion and I was happy to support that.
Post-Museum closed, marking the end of era. Civil society activists now have nowhere to hang out and budding artists have one less place to grow.
Two elections were held. I couldn't vote in the General Elections because my area inexplicably became a part of another constituency, but I voted for the first time in the Presidential Elections. I am still waiting for my fellow citizens to awaken.
As a teenager, I had wanted to work at the UN. Working there briefly as an activist this year realised the dream that I had lost. I sense that it is more fufilling working there as an activist; most of the staff there, even the high-level ones, looked tired or jaded, probably from the bureaucracy. I am more intrigued by the field of human rights now.
Job-wise, I moved to a new field, to a more progressive organisation with a great environment and nicer folk. It has a gym, shower facilities, massage chair and affordable healthy food. The work is not yet what I hoped it could be, but my quality of life has improved.
Toward the end of the year, I wanted to return to taiji lessons and my teacher suggested that I take up another form instead, so I did.
I haven't done my Masters degree as I hoped. Every time I think I found the right course, I change my mind after some time. Maybe it's because my interests are still evolving.
