I usually lock the front tyre of my bicycle with an old wire lock and lock the frame to a metal post or bar with a newer U-lock. It is parked in a bright, open space, next to other bicycles.
Yesterday, I found the wire lock cut. The wheel to which it was attached, had a bent, broken spoke. The U-lock also suffered some gashes.
Fortunately, the U-lock prevailed. The would-be thief did not even bother to remove evidence of the crime; the cut lock was left gaping wide.
They could have taken the seat, frontlight or front tyre, which are detachable, but they didn't. Small mercies.
A quick check of neighbouring bicycles showed that the thief had attempted to cut another bike's lock too and did not get far.
My bike needs a suit of armour! In the meantime, the two new locks will have to do.
