This entire week has been terrible, mental health-wise. Though I was feeling pretty good on Wednesday, when I met up with blizaga-kururu, probably the only other person in Canberra who cares about fanworks for Homestar Runner and Sam & Max. We walked around Civic and talked for two hours. It was awesome! I even started losing my voice. She lives on the other side of the city to me, but that's okay, it's not like the city is Sydney or something.

She's also autistic, which eased my nervousness about body language and eye contact a lot. And has a Sam & Max sticker on her laptop!

But for the rest of the week I've been really pent up and anxious and tired and apathetic, and those aren't really productive states of mind. I had the attention span of a hurricane today, and here's a bullet list of me jumping from activity to activity:
  • Research adoption! (for a fanfic idea)
  • Research OCD! (for a character study)
  • Plan out my NaNo!
  • Read an LJ community!
  • Obsessively check my messages!
  • Study some German!
  • Go to the shops to buy some sardines to eat on toast!
  • Actually I want macaroni and cheese as well!
  • And chips!
  • And... Ooh, are those mango flavoured Mentos?
  • Obsessively check my messages!
  • Read a different LJ community!
  • Sleep, even though it's the middle of the afternoon!
  • Obsessively check my messages!
  • Sleep some more!

A couple of notes about that: I didn't mention everything I did today, and each activity didn't last for much longer than ten minutes, if that. None of them were what I wanted to do. Also, I don't normally impulse buy.

Personally, I blame Sporcle. I can't stop playing Sporcle quizzes, especially the geography ones. I just have to see a map and I go "Palau, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Australia, Samoa, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, New Zealand, that's all the countries in Oceania! Now I'll name every country in Europe in alphabetical order!"

But I guess it is kind of draining, and may be hurting my ability to function. Like Minecraft. When I first got that, I couldn't stop playing it, and for some reason it made me anxious. But it was so addictive. I'm fine now, but I remember having something like a panic attack, which I've never had before, and being annoyed that playing it while tipsy was just as anxiety inducing as playing it sober.

Also I wrote down what I'd been thinking while playing this quiz, as one of the many things I got bored with within five minutes: (The states had to be listed in alphabetical order, but could be entered in any order, as long as the correct place in the list was selected)
  • Okay, onto to the Cs. Colorado... Connecticut... Uh... Deleware... I'll come back to that part. What other US state starts with C?

  • Deleware isn't in this box... Deleware isn't in this box... Deleware isn't in this box... how far down from Connecticut could Deleware possibly be? ...Oh. It's Delaware with an a. I knew that.

  • New York... I know there's more US states than that that start with "new". Uh... New York... No, I'm not typing that that yet. I need something further up in the alphabet. New Y... Mexico! No, that's too far down too. I know there's something above that... Ah! New Hampshire!

  • (directly after adding New Hampshire) Now I can add... Um... the one I thought of five seconds ago... New York?

  • Is New England a state? (I knew it wasn't even as I thought it, so I don't know what the point of that was)

  • Nunuvat! No, that's in Canada.

  • Oh, there's the Oregon Trail. (That one's word for word instead of a translation of a bunch of vague feelings and is an accurate representation of my thought process)

  • Maybe Qatar... Wait, that's a country in the Middle East.

  • HOW DO YOU SPELL TENNESSEE???? (I'm just glad I'd forgotten about the existence of Massachusetts)
And then the time ran out before I could figure out that Tennessee had two Es on the end.

I'm feeling a little bit better now, but I'm tired and should be in bed, so I can't do much about it. Maybe I'll stay away from Sporcle tomorrow.

...LJ, "Post to oneinnabun" does not mean "Preview". Stop that.
