Movie # 3: Babel

OK, now this was a MOVIE!

Similar to last year's Crash, Babel http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449467/ was a conglomeration of different stories, different characters, but all of them connected: An American tourist is shot by a young Moroccan goatherd boy, and her husband tries desperately to get her medical help, i.e. preferably the hell OUT of Morocco. A confused, bitter, deaf-mute Japanese teen, recovering from from her mother's suicide, saddled with a dad who shows her very little affection, is desperate for human contact--any human contact. An illegal Mexican nanny can't find anyone to watch her young American charges so she can attend her son's wedding, so she packs the kids up and hauls them to Mexico...then, of course, she has to get back across the border. Ha, good luck.

This was an AMAZING film. And yes, like the others it was verrrry long, but for once I didn't mind because I was positively riveted. The majority of the actors are complete "unknowns" and the acting simply blew me away. Go see it!

Three down, 2 more to go.

kudos, oscar, movies
