So I'm going back to school. Did I mention that here? I'm going back to become a librarian. I'm thinking I'd like to work in a law school library, but I could change my mind. It's happened before.
I've been starting to freak out a bit about going back in the last week or so, mostly because I'm starting to realize how busy I'm going to be. Originally I was just going to take a class a semester and continue working, but I decided to go back full time, which means I'll be using some of my vacation time from work to take classes. Add in homework, volleyball, etc., and my schedule is filling up quickly. Also, it's been a few years since I've done any school-type writing, and I'm afraid that's a skill I'm losing.
I had orientation on Friday, and it actually made me feel better about the whole thing. I met some people in my program, many of whom are fresh out of undergrad. I also had a professor who is a former lawyer seek me out and tell me to come see her if I wanted advice on going into law librarianship, which was awesome. She'll be a great resource to have.
So yeah, I'm feeling ok about the whole thing at the moment, but we'll see how I feel after classes start on Tuesday.

Last weekend I went to see Colin Hay (ex. Men At Work singer). I first heard Colin's solo work on an episode of The Larry Sanders Show that just happened to be on in the background, and really liked him. Then I discovered that he was in Men At Work, which made me like him all the more. He was really good live - a great performer and really funny when he talks between shows. And he even sang stripped down versions of Men At Work songs. You never know if musicians who were in bands who later have solo careers hate the songs that made them famous or if they own them, but Colin owns them. And that means I got to hear Down Under live.
I've been more in the mood for live music lately than I have been in the past few years. Unfortunately, Iowa City is not a huge music town. We get some random people coming through since we are a college town, but there's not a lot of great venues and it's still a pretty small town. In the next couple of months I may go see Casiotone For the Painfully Alone and David Bazan (ex. Pedro the Lion).
Speaking of Pedro the Lion, a local guy named
Caleb Engstrom opened for Colin Hay, and he was amazing. He did a great cover of one of my favorite Pedro the Lion songs, Options. Unfortunately he took off after his set so I couldn't buy his cd after the show. But I'm going to plug him anyway.
