in the afterlife

Last week Friday the Squirrel Nut Zippers performed a free show downtown as headliners for the Iowa Arts Festival. And no, it's not 1999 again. The late 90s swing revival hit during my early college years, and as a result, my cd collection is peppered with Squirrel Nut Zippers and Cherry Poppin Daddies cds (I've stopped obsessively buying cds in the past few years like I used to, and looking through my cd collection was quite amusing, but that's a post for another day). So I was excited to hear that they'd be performing, and broke out Hot and Perrenial Favorites, which I haven't listened to in 5+ years. The show was supposed to start at 9, but there was a power outage and it didn't start until after 10:30 with the help of a generator. While we were waiting for power, the band snaked their way through the crowd while playing.

We were standing just off to the left of the end of the above clip. They were excellent once they were able to take the stage. People in the crowd were dancing around like idiots and there were 3 or 4 couples who took swing dancing lessons in college dancing near the front of the crowd. All in all a great show, and a great crowd, even in spite of the delay.
