This past weekend has been pretty phenomenal. The original plan was pretty great sounding, but even though plans on 2 of the days changed, it has still been great. Friday was a trip to Philadelphia. I went with my girlfriend and it was just an incredible day with her. We first went to South Street and had a great veggie cheesesteak at Giannas, I know a lot of vegan and vegetarian people that don't like it there, but I found it to be good, better than what NYC vegetarian places call cheesesteaks. We walked on South Street for a bit but then decided to head for the show we were going to. Now the rumors of the show were true. It was in a small room and they were being strict about admittance. We got there 2 hours early, and got in without a problem. However, the wait outside was long and cold. The first act to play was a solo artist from Philly, who lots of people seemed to be into, Erik Peterson. I did enjoy his stuff, I guess it would be compared to older acoustic Against Me! or any other punk rock act with an acoustic guitar. The Loved Ones followed. They played 6 of the 7 songs they have released between the demo and EP, plus 2 new songs. Jason from Kid Dynamite was there and they sent a song out to him, because he did their video (www.jadetree.com and go to their band page to watch it). I enjoyed their set, but like I always say, Dave seemed pretty sober so they weren't their best. Smoke or Fire was next. They mostly played songs from their new album Above This City, but played 2 older songs also. I really enjoyed them, and it's good to finally be familiar with their material. Against Me! headlined, and it was awesome being at such a small show for them, I know tons of people got turned away from the show. After 2 songs the university wanted to stop the show because it looked like things were getting rough, but no one had a problem with anything, so they kept playing. Now they played 4 new songs. The first 2 had a pretty dancy beat and bass line, and seemed like the new trend in indie rock, this "dance punk" crap. I wasn't a fan, although the lyrics could be good for all I know. The third song sounded more like Eternal Cowboy and was about being in a van, I liked it, the 4th new song was "problems" which is on the infamous Stolen Demo and the DVD. They did close with the song "impact" which was pretty awesome. I picked up a screened AM! poster called "Attack of Against Me!" and it's like a movie poster, pretty cool. I also got the brand new Sink Florida, Sink 7" with dicut case. It's pretty awesome looking, I still need to listen to it though. Lauren got a new AM! shirt too. After the show we headed back to South Philly to see her friend. We went to a party where I felt pretty uncomfortable, mostly due to allergies, but I still tried to be social and have a good time. I did meet some nice folks. The drive home wasn't bad at all. We got back to NYC at 4am.
Now Saturday I was supposed to go to Connecticut for my friends birthday party/show. However, I was approved for my puppy, and he was going to get dropped off on Saturday. I was hoping they would drop him off early enough so that I could go, but they couldn't get him here til 3, and then not until 6. So Pip got dropped off, I signed the paperwork and he was mine, well for now he is still fostered out to me because he needs one more shot, which he gets Wednesday. He has adjusted very well and loves us a lot. He snores a lot when sleeping and doesn't always make it to the newspaper when going to the bathroom, but he is so loveable. I will just need to work on training him so that he goes on the newspaper and eventually outside. he went for a ride in the care today and was a really good puppy. Last night I watched the movie Closer, I enjoyed it, pretty cool how things come around in the end.
As for today, I was originally planning on going to see Paint It Black in Asbury Park, but when I found out about the puppy I decided today would be good to bond with him. Pip has been very playful today and has had many bursts of energy and has been into biting anything and everything, but he is teething. I watched another movie I rented, Flight of the Phoenix, I thought it was good for what it was. It wasn't what I was expecting based on the previews, but I still enjoyed it, I guess it is based off a book.
I have been doing a lot of cooking recently, and most of it has been turning out pretty good. I found a fake meatloaf recipe which turned out surprisingly good and just made vegan french toast which also turned out great.
I made Pip a
myspace, so check it out.
