It's about time I do this. So here it is: the application form for Haruko!
Background Info + Personality
AIR is the story of a guy named Yukito Kunisaki, who arrived in a small seaside town in search of a girl with wings who flies in the sky. While there, he meets Misuzu Kamio, a cheerful, clumsy dinosaur-loving girl who usually says the phrase "Gao~" whenever she is about to cry or feels troubled. Throughout the course of the story, the two become friends and more stuff happens.
Then again, this app has more to do with Haruko Kamio, Misuzu's foster mother/aunt. Haruko is the eccentric young woman with a huge obsession for alcohol, with sake being the thing she drinks most often, especially after coming home from work. Other hobbies are having TMI-love conversations (one of which she calls the "Erotic Confessions Corner") and driving her motorcycle, which she parks by crashing into the garage with it every night. Haruko also has a knack for knowing how people act just by looking at them... at least that's what she claims, but it's just her taking people at face value. Despite her outgoing and laid-back attitude, she can be annoyed easily, and will show by either whacking some people with a paper fan or by speaking out. Overall, she's a huge bundle of fun. Just remember to entertain her!
Underneath that fun-loving, carefree exterior, however, lies a very serious side to Haruko that only certain people see, but she has a strange way of showing that. She also happens to have a very vulnerable side in the form of her relationship with Misuzu.
It all started when Haruko's sister died, leaving Misuzu without a mother. Misuzu's father didn't want his daughter, so Haruko had no choice but to take her under her wing. While she did provide Misuzu with food, clothing, and shelter -- like what a mother would do for a child -- she completely distances herself from her. Any mention of Misuzu? She'll try and change the subject to something else. The truth is that Haruko is afraid of getting close to Misuzu, fearing that she'll grow attached to her and care for her -- especially when Misuzu suffers from a psychological illness that makes her cry whenever she gets really close to someone.
Haruko's isolation from Misuzu is some form of defense mechanism in case Misuzu's father comes back to take his daughter away from her. However, that plan backfired because Haruko grew attached to her own niece. In the later part of the series, Misuzu became really sick from her illness and Haruko took action in spending lots of quality time with her, being very compassionate towards her, etc. Eventually, she grew to love her as her own child.
Unfortunately, Misuzu died and Haruko was devastated. Eventually though, Haruko did move on, keeping all of her precious memories of her daughter/niece inside her heart.
What she was doing while not on the island
Haruko was just taking a long trip at the beach, still thinking that she's back at home. Perhaps that trip was quite long when she started noticing island-related things. Unbeknownst to her, there is a nice surprise along her way in the form of a certain blue-eyed blonde girl but shhh, she doesn't know that yet!
Sample Post
Today's just another regular day in my life. The sky's perfectly blue, just as I remembered! Oh wait, it's like this all the time. Silly me! But as they say, "The sky's the limit". All of the people's wishes and dreams are so far beyond our grasps, it's not even funny -- but the possibilities are endless! ♥
Speaking of the sky, I wonder how Misuzu's doing up there. Lucky girl. I'm sure she's having so much fun playing in the clouds, having a wonderful reunion with that crow of hers. She deserves a lot of happiness, something I wasn't able to give--
N-no! No, no, no. Enough wallowing in the past! It's time to move on! That's right, just keep on going forward~
...
Huh!? Okay, maybe that was a bit too forward. Last time I checked, this beach didn't have any palm trees! Or if they did, I don't remember coconuts having names! "Heineken"? "Budweiser"? "Lemon margarita"? "Coconut daiquiri"? Hah! This is so hilarious! I think I'll take these things home with me. Will they be as tasty as a nice bottle of sake after work? Who knows, now as soon as I get home...
Wait a sec, I don't remember monkeys on the beach! Is that supposed to be a joke? Because making dinosaur noises aren't necessarily monkey-like, y'know. Having so much fun going "Gao~, gao~", right? Haha. Aww, so cute. I'm sure if Misuzu were here, she'd like that...
Okay, sight-seeing's over. I'm obviously not home anymore! I could ask "Where am I?" but I'm sure someone else has done so already. This better be some elaborate joke but if that's the case, I'm not laughing.
A list of things she might have on them after she got snatched up and put on this island:
- A bottle of sake
- Her motorcycle and helmet
- Her clothes (casual and work)
- A paper fan to whack people with >D
