In the woods, close to the house. We had been searching most carefully on the north side of the house, but I eventually found her on the south side. The first few days of the hunt, there had been and was sometimes rain, so there was water everywhere. But after a few days without rain, she was probably on the south side because there's water there. There's a tiny spring and a little frog pond, out in the woods. Now that she knows that water source, I'm really glad, because if this happens again, I think I'll assume that (a), she'll come home when she's hungry (which some experienced dog people were telling me) and (b), she'll probably be going to the pond for water.
While hunting I found a great path to the the river from here, all public hiking, and not too far. And it crosses a small stream early on. I'm not showing her that path until I teach her how to come when called.
