The oddest thing happened Tuesday.
Monday night I spent all night playing Advanced Wars on my DS... fun game.
I was also chewing Stride gum; the ones with the commercials about how the flavor lasts so long the company is going out of business, you know.
Well, the flavor may not last at long as all that, but it does last a long time. Somewhere around 9pm my gum was dieing out and I thought I should spit it out. I put a new piece in my mouth instead and kept chewing my newly flavorful, and double large wad of gum.
This one mission on the game was running long. In the game players take turns deploying little army men and vehicles, and they shoot each other etc. The mission was running long at turn 22 somewhere around midnight. On turn 68, four and a half hours later, I won.
I was upset I was going to bed at 4:30 am.... and OH MY GOD, MY JAW HURT!
I chewed the gum all night without thinking. Just absent mindedly chewed.
I went to bed.
Tuesday I woke up and my jaw hurt more!
And now, I COULDN'T CLOSE MY MOUTH ALL THE WAY!
Never mind it hurt a lot to move my mouth. The muscles, tendons, and what-have-you in my jaw had swollen to the point that they were forcing my lower jaw down and forward just a tiny bit. My incisor teeth, instead of shearing past each other like normal, where now meeting edge on. My molars in the back of my mouth were about 1/6 of an inch from touching. 1/6 of an inch isn't a big gap, but having the molars meet adds a lot to the chewing process. I took some Tylenol for the swelling... breakfast was light.
Thankfully by lunch the swelling was down so I could chew again.
I won't be playing more midnight games with gum.
Beware the Stride gum.
