School Carnival

Yes, I would say I´m pleased. I got to talk with Regina and Cil for over an hour today for FREE!  How amazing are internet cafes?

Last night I went to a school carnival/dance as much to my entertainment as the Paraguayans. Every head turns to stare as I enter, The Mysterious White American, I´m sort of a myth among these people.  Many have heard I exist and live, gasp, ALONE; and now they have seen me with thier own eyes.  Men whispèr to each other when I pass and women grow silent.  I advert my eyes and frantically search for people I know, hoping to snag a seat next to them.  However, much to my dissappointment a carnival in Paraguay is much like a dance in Paraguay. Hence, the women stand on one side while their mothers or grandmothers watch them and grant permission to dance.  The men stand on the other side of the dance floor(small patch of lawn) and stare down the women.  They are waiting for the dancing to start and choosing their partners in their heads.  I see a few guys I know but it would be culturally unacceptable to cross the invisable line.  Ah, but luck seems to be on my side because there is one seat available in the couples section next to my friend, Noami, and her boyfriend. I zoom in, which requires me to walk in front of the entire line of men and women, and plop down, ahh comfort. After sever hours of being the awkward third single wheel the dancing starts, but my hopeful man, which has promised me dances has yet to work up the nerve to ask me, so I step away as my feet freeze form my negligence of forgetting my gym shoes(it is freezing!). I want to go home.  That´s when I realize, I thought the word "home" and for the first time it wasn´t the states I was thinking about, hmmph?
