I got the day off and it was pretty great. I was sleeping until I heard the house phone ring and I saw that my mom called. When I called her back, she mentioned that instead of me waiting to get her car until mid-November, whenever Brandon and I get our dog (which will now probably be named Guinness), she can drive down to Alexandria and we can take it then.
Brandon and I had lunch at Subway and went to the mall. I bought him a 120G iPod and a second car hook-up so we'll both be able to listen to our iPods in our cars. I took his 30G iPod so I'm pumped about that because I seem to have lost mine.
When we got home, Glenn came over and in the process of moving his dresser from our spare room into Brandon's truck, Brandon lost his grip while on the way down the stairs and now we have a Glenn's butt-sized hole in our wall. I already talked to Ms Pam about it and she said it's no biggie and Brandon will fix it soon.
After Glenn left, we got dinner and I took my speech test through Blackboard. I'm sort of annoyed that I made an 83, but I'm sure I'll pick up an extra few points considering 2 of the questions were messed up. We also vacuumed the spare room and moved Brandon's couch up there. I didn't realize how messy it was until I started vacuuming, but there was cat food and kitty litter everywhere, not to mention the fact that their cats' litter box complete with cat shit is STILL THERE.
Let's see.. what else.. right now Brandon's downstairs cleaning and I should probably go help him.
But in the further spirit of me writing about more than just the day-to-day crap, an entry in the Atmosphere livejournal community got me thinking. The poster talked about how he/she is going to "hear" the Atmosphere show in their town this week and not actually see it because the ticket price is too high. They lamented that only 3 or 4 years ago, they could see Atmosphere for a fraction of the cost. The general consensus of the commenters was that the poster needs to fuck off. But seriously, I have no problem paying $15 per ticket to see Atmosphere. I don't know the exact ages of Ant, Blueprint, DJ Raregroove, or Abstract Rude, but Slug is fucking 36 and bless his heart, I hope he's got a mortgage to pay and I'll fucking help him. These guys aren't in the mainstream (well sort of. Atmosphere has been on Jimmy Kimmel and MTV a few times but it's not like they're on the cover of magazines and being interviewed on Entertainment Tonight) and will possibly never really be hugely famous. But they're in their 20s and 30s and they can't survive off $5 ticket prices anymore and why the fuck should they? Tipitina's looked packed to me and their site said maximum capacity is 1000 people. If everyone paid the same ticket price as me, $15 a pop, and let's say 1000 tickets were sold (but if I had to guess, probably 300-500 people were there), the whole show made $15,000. I don't know the average cut the venues get, but even if it all went straight to the guys, each got $3,000 and that doesn't even count Atmosphere's back-up singer and guitarist. So if they all got even cuts and Tipitina's didn't take out anything, each person got a little over $2100. And good for them if they did! I want Atmosphere to tour as much as they can and I want it to be worth it for them to always include New Orleans.
Anyways, now I'm sleepy.
