"Are you sure this is going to work, Dee? It's kind of weird."
"I am sure, York. You did connect the projector, yes?"
Silence. "Uh, you mean did I connect the red and green and yellow wires together? Well..."
"York..." Slight exasperation, but only slight.
"Sorry, sorry. I know, bad joke. I know how to wire a projector. Sort of like wiring a TV, but different. I have it hooked into the system, so anytime you're ready, give me a holler."
"One moment." One last probe of the system, making sure no viruses or glitches may arise that will foul their efforts up. "All right. Hit the power button, York."
A beep, a flicker of light, and then... "Well? Did everything turn out satisfactory, York?"
"Damn, Dee, you look like in that photo the Nexus mailman brought me. That's unnerving. Can you walk around- well, I guess that answers my question."
"I'm not who I was, but this will do for me." Examination of a hand, a watch on a wrist, a cufflink. "I'm... me, I suppose. Both Delta and whoever I was once. One life, two names." A hand reaches up to adjust a pair of horn-rimmed glasses.
"You're sounding better, anyway. Glad you're back to normal, buddy. You gonna give it a test run in the Nexus?"
"Indeed." And for the first time, York can see Delta smiling.
It's a good day.
