House Bunny - HOW DO MOVIES LIKE THIS EVEN GET MADE? Doesn't someone, at some point in the creative process stop and go, "hey, guys, this totally fucking sucks"???? I find it hard to believe that no one notices.
Anyway, as far as Movies That Don't Suck, Hellboy II was really enjoyable! Yes, the pacing was a little wild and, yes, I think maybe they pushed a little bit of Abe's established character aside for a) plot advancement and b) comedy but I really enjoyed it overall. There were, however, insufficient kittens in my opinion BUT that is made up for by the millions and millions of gears and mechanical creatures that I have a total artistic boner for, so it's okay in the end.
Today will be the awesome Gurren-LagannFest at
orochiserge and
tophbeifong's place. There I will fall a little more in love with Rukia and probably pig out on some kind of bad food while shouting "WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE!?" along with Kamina.
Some other chumps will be at barbecues. What a bunch of suckers.
I got my financial aid, loans, and classes all sorted out for the Art Institute. I'm enrolled for a more-or-less-one-year program to earn a diploma in Baking and Pastry Arts. I had considered getting an Associate's but a) it's crazy expensive and b) would require me to take stupid classes like "Life Skills" (a class to teach 18 year olds how not to die when faced with challenges like balancing one's checkbook or buying groceries NO REALLY I AM SERIOUS) and Algebra. I'm not putting up with that shit, I just want to bake and learn to work sugar and chocolate etc.
BECAUSE I got my loans taken care of (Thank you, Sallie Mae, for recognizing my excellent credit and giving me a decent interest rate) [OH GOD OH GOD THAT IS SO MUCH MONEY] and those loans include a monthly budget of up to $1000 for housing costs (equivalent to living on their campus housing - and now I bet you can see why I didn't, nevermind sharing a small space with four idiotic 18 year old girls away from home for the first time) so with my rent of $450/mo including utilities, I am more than set.
Speaking of rent, I will be more than likely signing a lease this Sunday for a small room in a house in Falls Church, VA in a nice, quiet neighborhood a stone's throw away from 495 and a 20 minute drive from the school. The house itself was recently refurbished and goddamn everything is new in there; carpets, paint, windows, doors, stove, fridge. It's awesome. It is not a big room that I am renting by any stretch but it IS a room. Walls and a closet and everything. I may be able to hold a small housewarming in late August but we'll see. There's a nice space in the basement I may be able to use if the guy down there doesn't pitch a fit.
I'll begin paying rent most likely on the first of August and move in sometime in the middle of the month. Notably, when everyone is in Chicago or at Beachcon and no one will be around to help me. AWESOME. But whatever, queerbots. I'm super-excited about buying FURNITURE!!!! Seriously. SUPER. EXCITED.
WANT and
WANT - they attach to give me extra storage for less space. YAY. Also, I'm totally painting my walls sage green if okay and/or raiding
this wall decal site that
diadiadia linked to for all that it's worth.
I'm going to be taking online courses only for the next 11 weeks while I work as close to full-time at some Barnes and Noble in the Falls Church area as possible. That way I can begin saving ALREADY and putting some money in a savings account or, eventually, a CD to get some interest built up on it well before I ever even have to begin paying my loans back in about a year and a half. Weekends MIGHT exist for at least a short time this August and September. WHO KNOWS!?!?
Life is looking up. And
saber_rider is still wonderful. How did I get so lucky?
