Woooo happy news! Some or most of you may know that, at present, I'm on campus for an 8-week summer fellowship. During these 8 weeks I'm researching and writing on the topic of my choice which happens to be Harry Potter and Virtue Ethics. Just getting that research grant was amazing news. One of the reasons I think I got it was that I had applied to present whatever I was going to do that summer at
The Witching Hour, a combination fan and academic conference on Rowling's books, taking place this fall in Salem.
Just heard back from The Witching Hour. I applied both to participate in a panel as well as present my research individually. I just recieved an e-mail letting me know that I get to be on the Harry and Tom: From Similar Beginnings panel and that it takes place at the opening dinner! OPENING DINNER! My god, I get to make my academic career debutmajigg AT the opening dinner. I get to be part of the first impression. I feel SO FUCKING HONORED right now.
I still haven't heard back on my individual presentation (but will by the 15th) but I think the above is a good sign that I'll get it. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
It's the first day of Summer Fellows, I'm mildly dreading these informal presentations going down this Monday , but now I have this big boost o' confidence. Huzzah!
