They still fought, of course, but it had been years since they had really fought seriously over anything. More recently, they had taken to ending their fights in a more congenial manner. Their last fight, they had been playing video games on something called an XBox that John had managed to alchemize. Jade had been winning, when the troll had cheated, causing the entire game to inexplicably crash. They yelled at each other, sitting only feet away on Jade’s bed, making wild gesturing motions.
“It’s all your fault, Harley! Now you’ve fucked up your own human games!”
“Yes, this is definitely my fault, becauseI was definitely the one that was using the physical contact cheat that I told you would crash the game if used at the wrong time!”
“Oh fuck you!”
“No, fuck you!”
Without warning, Karkat had closed the gap, lips on hers, rough and demanding. She gasped, dropping the controller to the ground. He wasn’t sure what was going through his mind - the idea of being physically close, the way that Jade was beautiful when she yelled, or a combination of both. He pulled her onto his lap and she wrapped her arms around his neck, breaking their kiss to give him a curious look.
“You started it,” she told him softly, leaning her forehead against his. He growled at her, though Karkat knew it was hardly threatening.
“If I use the cheat on you, does it mean you’ll crash too? You’re weaker than I thought.” A smirk crossed his face as she processed. It didn’t take her long to realize what he meant.
“I’m not a video game, dumbass.”
She kissed him again.
