Life is awesome. I was just thinking about how much I absolutely love working with kids. Yesterday I was able to play with the kindergarteners with playdough for an hour. They helped me make "myself". I had blue hair and a purple dress and these ridiculously tall high heels. Well, they looked more like boxes. Then of course one of the boys had a plastic knife and cut off my limbs and my head. They are so cute. Which is interesting, because that's the one age group I've had limited experience with. But I'm finding that they are really awesome because they are still young enough to not really have an attitude. Then again they sneeze in your face.
Well, I just love kids in general. Even though working with them can absolutely wear you down to the point of not being able to construct a sentence, I really do think it's worth it in the end. Being able to have a relationship with them, talk to them about random things, help them, teach them..is amazing. So this is good that I STILL haven't changed my mind. Then again I STILL haven't become a classroom teacher, so I'll re-evaluate then. ;) But I think even then, it will all be worth it.
I was interested about working in a diverse school too, because I never have. But one thing it taught me is that kids are kids, no matter how you look at it. Yeah, you can tell the difference between these kids and the kids in Sudbury, mainly the fact that these kids don't expect everything to go their way, and they respond to discipline. This school is also a hell of a lot more strict than my other ones were, which I find to be really awesome and beneficial. I still believe in things like detention, etc...nowadays that practice is becoming less and less. It just has to be applied in the right fashion, and it has to work. If it doesn't, then it shouldn't be used. Well, whatever. My school is awesome, I love the kids, and the people that work there. I feel a lot more comfortable there..I think..then I did in Sudbury. And maybe it's all in my head but everyone seems more down to earth, more committed to a cause, etc. Which is great.
In other news, it's a perfect, crisp, clear fall day so I'm going on a hike. Which promises to be amazing. I can't do it justice in words how nice of a day it is. I love this time of year.
More later.
Love,
Jess
