Finding home again

Every night since he left I’ve had this ache inside me. This pang of longing and…how’s this for irony; I feel like my soul’s missing.

My boy’s been gone for so long and hasn’t sent so much as a letter or a note, nothing. Till last week.

I finished dressing and watched as she tied my shirt at her waist. God she looked good wearing my clothes and she was right, it was going to get me all hot and bothered to know that she was covered in me. To know that she was mine. And she was, mine that is. God, that felt good…I should write spike a little letter, just to let him know of course.

"Ready to go baby? Start our life together."

“More than ready,” I said, smiling and doing up the last button on my shirt. “You go ahead, I’ll be there in a minute.”

I watched as she left the room and made her way to the front door. This was the right choice, and I was happy to make it. Couldn’t really leave without saying goodbye though. Grabbing a pen and a scrap of paper, I scrawled a quick note.

”Hope you had a good time today with whatever you were doing. I had a visitor while you were out. Tara, you might remember her. Anyway, she couldn’t stay for long and as it turns out, neither could I. Be seeing you.”

“Hopefully not too soon, though.” I smiled and dropped the note on the bed on top of the crumpled sheets that no doubt smelt of nothing but Tara and walked out towards the front door. Tara was standing there on the top of the stairs, looking down into the night. She looked beautiful in the moonlight, the beauty of a creature in her natural place in the world. And that was with me.

“Come on.” I grabbed her hand and we made our way down the stairs.
