what are friends for?

maybe i'm way off base here, but aren't friends supposed to be there for you no matter what? they may not be promises like richer or poorer, sickness, health and all of that but isn't there thick and thin? take joy in your joy, be your shoulder to cry on? let you vent? maybe not all friends, maybe not the people who you do this for, maybe i'm wrong. maybe i'm only allowed to bring certain issues to certain people, is that it?
