Oh yeah: I went to China.

A few months ago I went to China. Specifically the Beijing area. Beijing is an endless, sprawling metropolis. China is home to over a billion people and has an impossibly important and complex history dating back many thousands of years. I couldn't begin to describe the experience of visiting a place so vast in so many ways. So today begins a series of photos that might partially tell the tale.

UA flight 889, SFO to Beijing. 12 hours in the air. I was sitting in an exit row near the bathrooms so there were always a few people crowded around in front of me. No one seemed to notice this little girl push through all the grownup legs so she could look out the window. I took a picture of her and she noticed, but instead of running away like I would do if I was a little girl and some stranger pointed a camera at me, she just gazed at me curiously. Eventually she went back to her seat, but kept coming back to look out the window. Every time, she would stop and look expectantly at me and I would take her picture. I ended up with like 14 shots of her. Eventually I worried about exhausting the camera battery and just faked like I was taking them. She never made a sound.
