35 week update

May 29, 2010 00:20

Okay, just a quick update while I eat my bedtime snack, cuz I am SO tired...I had a super busy day today and I'm not going to be conscious much longer.

We had the baby shower last weekend and it was fun.  We got a lot of stuff we really needed, and have just about everything we need now.  We even have 64 onesies.  Yes, SIXTY-FOUR.  At least two thirds of them were acquired prior to the baby shower, which is why there were no clothes on our registry, but that didn't stop people from buying them.  People LOVE to buy baby clothes, whether you need them or not.  Oh well, it will be nice at least to not have to do laundry so often  :)

The only thing we have left to buy still is a stroller, and I have a $50 credit at Babies R Us, a 20% off coupon, and my eye on one that's been on clearance for a while, so I'll keep watch as the price continues to drop and move in for the kill when the time is right.  That's how I got my crib bedding set there for $40... over 50% off!  As overpriced as most of the stuff at that store is, you can occasionally get some really good deals if you hoard the coupons and watch for sales (and return a few surplus onesies).

I had my first visit with a Webster-certified chiropractor today to help manage my SPD pain.  I skipped my appointment with my physical therapist yesterday because I'm just frustrated with it and don't feel like it's helping much.  My midwife and physical therapist keep contradicting each other on the exercises they think I should be doing, and then most recently my physical therapist has begun contradicting HERSELF from one appointment to the next... I feel like even though they mean well, there aren't many healthcare professionals out there who truly understand how SPD works and who can agree on what should be done to treat it.
So today I pretty much grilled the chiropractor on what I should and shouldn't be doing (i.e. squats, kegels, lunges, tailor sitting, sitting on exercise ball, etc).  His reply was, "listen to your body.  If it hurts, stop doing it."  This approach makes the most sense to me!  Anyway, he didn't give me an adjustment today.  He did an exam and wants me to come back for another one on Tuesday, then will adjust me after he compares the results of the two exams several days apart.
And he's having me bring in some back x-rays that I had done several years ago.  I picked them up from my doctor's office this afternoon and was shocked when I realized that even to my untrained eye, my spine is very obviously in the shape of an S.  And I'm not talking about the lateral view either.  Apparently there is also a rotation in addition to the two curves (which I was told about at the time of the x-rays, but I never actually saw the images myself), but I'm not able to decipher that because, well, I didn't go to school to read x-rays.  In any event, the "mild" scoliosis that I've had since I was a teenager is obviously a contributing factor to the pelvic misalignment and pain.  It's probably something that I should have paid more attention to treating BEFORE I got pregnant, but oh well.  At least it hasn't interfered too much with Sprout's positioning at this point.  She's definitely head-down, and hopefully she'll stay that way and try not to be posterior.

She's been super kicky and wiggly the past couple days.  It's interesting how her movements are changing as she runs out of room in there.  Instead of the jerky, karate-type kicks and punches she used to throw, now it feels like she's struggling just to stretch out another inch or two in any direction.  I feel bad for her, but at the same time am relieved that I won't be getting TOO much bigger!  If you want to keep growing, you're going to have to come out soon, little one!  I've gained only 20 pounds since getting pregnant, and actually LOST a pound at the last weigh-in due to decreased appetite and other pleasantries of late pregnancy (raging reflux, feeling like a bloated cow, being in too much pain to walk to the kitchen when I'm hungry, etc), but that's fine because I have extra reserves for the both of us!

Also, here is a link to the slideshow that has all of my finished maternity photos on it.  Now that the photographer is done photoshopping the dork out of me, we get to decide which images we want to order prints of  :)

Goodnight all!
