I am SO tired of people acting like I have no idea that childbirth is going to hurt.
Especially when I mention my SPD pain.  Some days, I can barely fucking walk.  My MIL was like, "oh just wait until you're in labor."  That's real helpful, thanks.  So if I break my leg while I'm pregnant, I shouldn't say anything about the pain because the labor ( Read more... )

Don't be afraid your body, I hate hate hate hate HATE scare tactics that mothers put on mothers to be. It's the DUMBEST THING EVER, like a club initiation or something. Your birthing will be beautiful, challenging, and memorable, you'll understand that after. I think moms just want to relate or have some information 'on' your situation that could spark an emotion. Ignore them, focus on trusting your body and you can be one of the few who don't continue that awful tradition of scare tactics.

Frick, I wouldn't be signing up for another go if it was THAT bad.

Yeah, I figure humans as a species wouldn't still be around if childbirth were THAT awful!
I mean, yeah, I know it's going to hurt, but I also know it's going to be worth it.
And like you said, I can't fully understand or grasp it until I've done it. So if bitches would just quit with the "you have no idea" attitude... OF COURSE I have no idea! :P
I can't wait until I've been through it and done it myself and can intervene when I hear some other poor pregnant first-time mom being given the same scare tactics that I've been through. I can be all like, "stfu! I did it and so can you!" :)

I had a friend who was due three months before I was, she gave birth and I asked her 'honestly, how was it' and she looked me square in the eye and said 'really, it wasn't that bad, I don't get why people try to scare you like that'

imo she was the ONLY friend I had for saying that!

Yeah, I know some women who intend to have natural births cave and ask for the drugs, and usually if they get talked out of it they're glad they never got them. Honestly, I don't think I'll get to that point. I mean, I know I say that now, having never done it before, so take it with a grain of salt... but I'm one of those people who HATES to admit when I was wrong, and I would be so ashamed to cave and get drugs that I think the embarrassment itself would be enough to keep me from asking for them in the first place! Perhaps that's not the "right" reason to go drug-free, but if it gets me there, that's fine with me. I'm just stubborn enough for it to work ( ... )

That's interesting, since that's pretty much my basis for comparison when I think of pain. The tattoo that I had done on my lower leg was the most painful of the 3 I've gotten, and I think it was probably the most painful thing I've ever gone through. Granted, I've never broken a bone or had surgery or anything, so maybe I don't have much to compare it to, but tattoo pain is entirely voluntary (as is much of labor pain in today's hospital setting) so I think it takes a special kind of resolve to stick through it ( ... )

I had a totally medicated birth with my daughter because, to be quite honest, I was totally unprepared, had a miserable pregnancy, and didn't know any better. I'm definitely not about to sit here and tell you horror stories though (we were lucky, everything was straight forward despite the fact the pethidine and epidural I had could have very well led to so many more interventions) as I know now that with better preparation and confidence there would have been no way I would have needed all of that.

I'm 100% confident that this time I can and will give birth naturally, at home, and am totally excited about the whole thing. It's great to hear that you feel the same :):)
