just got back from the .... ::drumroll::...
General Henry hugh Shelton Leadership Challenge Institute
General Shelton is the big man as the acting commander of all armed forces (under the president that is) and i actually had an intelligent conversation with him. pretty cool stuff.
Camp was good...really the only thing i leanered was patience with intolerable peoplethe rest of the "lessons" were basically a review for me...grade-wise - i was the oldest person on my team. each night (save for the first for introduction) each team had a special event for which they had to plan and set up...we --being team #1 and the best-- had the first event...an ice cream/movie social on monday night...tuesday was a game of capture the flag...wednesday a talent show...thursday a farewell dance
we beat the staff in capture the flag...i won the talent show...and i was one of three persons forced to stay inside the "dancing circle" for the entire dance save for the last three because they were slow songs (who the f*** came up with the stupid idea of a circle of people swaying side to side...damn hippies)
teams were co-ed...but rooms were gendered for each team. there were 4 girls and a female peer leader and then 4 guys and a male CMT (college mentor trainee) on my team...all the girls had a room and all the guys had a room...i felt so special because i was asigned to the executive lodgings with air conditioning and two bathrooms while all the other teams got the old lodgings with screen windows, ceiling fans, and one bathroom.
on friday there was a graduation ceremony and the staff had created superlatives for each student and i got "the most creative and likely to be on broadway" lol...that was so cool.
after the ceremony, my stepmom and i went back to my dad's house and i came back on yesterday...on the way back jaosn called and asked if my stepmom, my dad, and i would care to join him for dinner at olive garden..so my dad finally met my boyfriend after him and i being together for a year...my parents invited him to come to goldsboro and have dinner at their house sometime soon... i was beaming the entire day because of that...jason asked me if i was curious why he volunteered to meet my dad (previously he had refused because he said he would have nothing pleasant to say to the man that did such horrible things to his young children in the past)...when i replied in the positive to his question he stated ,"I've been doing alot of thinking this past week while you were gone. I realized that in order for us to take our relationship to the next level I must get to know every important part of your life and right now your Dad is a big part of your life. I decided that I would meet your Dad because I knew it would make you happy and it came to me that you had met all of my family or at least talked with them and it would be beneficial to us --and fair to you-- if i met the rest of your family." I thanked him and we went to order his dad's birthday cake.
all in all...it has been a good week...i am frustrated that i haven't gone on vacation anywhere this summer and now it is virtually over for me...but it has been a pretty good summer.
Johnny...we have to do something before you leave or else i will never-ever forgive you./..besides i need my yearbook and my lockershelf...lol
Britt...we must do something before the summer is over...i do believe that the both of us will be far too busy once the school year starts...therefore it is a matter of some urgency...lol
now i am off to the Fred J. Miller Leadership and Colorguard Clinic at Jack Britt from 1 to 9...horray!!!!
