At this very moment, Eugene is sitting a few feet away from me and building me a new computer. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and I won't be crashing so damn much. Four gigs of RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 CPU, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX, 10000 RPM main hard drive, and 750 gig secondary hard drive. Also got a Logitech G15 keyboard and 24" wide screen LCD monitor. The couple that geeks out together, stays together.
In other news, Gigantour '08 was awesome.
High On Fire did okay for being first on and no one really seeming to know who they were. Job for a Cowboy got plenty of people spazzing out and was good enough that I'm definitely going to be looking into them more when I get the opportunity.
Children of Bodom were freaking fantastic. I think they got the most enthusiastic response out of all of the supporting bands, which is either proof that they truly are great, or that we Bodom fans are particularly rabid. Either way, they were who I went to see and they didn't disappoint. They played a good selection out of their discography and included two new songs from the upcoming album ("Hellhounds on My Trail" and "Blooddrunk," I think) that were killer. Alexi Laiho was a lot smaller than I expected him to be, though, which was kind of funny.
In Flames were okay. They only played a few older songs, off The Jester Race and Clayman, but they also played some stuff from the new album that seemed better than the last few albums. They played an awful lot of Reroute to Remain, which I personally could have done without, but whatever.
Megadeth killed, of course, despite problems with Dave Mustaine's guitar when they came out and blowing an amp halfway through. They didn't stray too far from their bigger hits but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I don't think anyone minded. They played "Holy Wars" as an encore, but we were already leaving by that point because it was pretty chilly and Eugene was in shorts and a t-shirt. Mustaine said he'd added something new in the middle of the song - presumably lyric-wise - but the clarity of his enunciation leaves a bit to be desired.
All things considered, the concert was wonderful and I'm already waiting for the next one. I'm still bummed about missing '06, but it won't be happening again.
So that leaves Týr at the Launchpad on May 13th, and we also bought tickets for floor seats at Cirque du Soleil's Saltimbanco on May 14th, which will be at the Santa Ana Star Center. We saw Mystère when we took Eugene's parents to Las Vegas in December and loved it, so I'm pretty excited about seeing this show, too. Chinese poles and tight rope? Yes, please.
