"I can't forgive you for calling me fat! But even more than that... Not just for stealing the last chip... or calling me fat... most importantly I won't forgive anyone who insults my best friend!" ~ Akimichi Chouji

General
Canon Source: Naruto
Canon Format: Manga
Character's Name: Chouji Akimichi
Character's Age: 16, May 1st (Tarsus)

What form will your character's NV take?
A simple dark red and black wrist communicator watch that is highly expandable to fit perfectly over his large wrists or even his wrist armor. The device is strong, able to take a large amount of force before damage will occur. It is capable of handling all NetVice functions (text, voice, video + holo) and has a small curved ear piece that hooks around and into his ear for hands free voice calls. There is a small Akimichi crest etched carefully on the wrist band. It is something he will recognize but not know where it came from. He’ll be able to figure it out well and it should work with his abilities and life style.

Abilities
"Chouji is a good guy… but he has no confidence in himself. He thinks that he is the weakest one of us all… but I know better. More then Neji or anyone here, Chouji is the strongest. I believe in him." ~ Nara Shikamaru

Techniques List

The links given above gives a much more detailed description of Chouji’s abilities and techniques. In short he has the talent of strength! The Akimichi Clan can manipulate their bodies, modifying the size of parts (fists, legs, feet etc) in order to fight. With his multi-sized techniques he can use his chakra (energy) to expand to enormous sizes, able to stand taller then trees or buildings much like a giant. It does however use a lot of chakra to do this and for prolonged periods of time will wear him out.

To build up mass amounts of energy needed for his techniques he converts calories into chakra, thus explaining why the boy is constantly eating! The more he eats the more calories he builds up the more he can convert to chakra for his strength and clan techniques. Asuma (his sensei) and Ino (a team mates) used to poke at him about going on a diet all the time, but he eats like he does because he needs the energy.

The Akimichi Clan has developed a secret technique of making pills to assist in speeding up the process and amount of chakra the Shinobi obtains. A spinach pill (green), a curry pill (yellow) and a chili pill (red), ranked much like a traffic light system where green is a go, yellow you should possibly slow down and red meaning stop. The red one, if taken, expels so much energy from the user that when it has worn off the user dies. Chouji has used all three pills once before and very nearly died though he was saved in the nick of time. He carries a small case of these pills on him, hidden in a pocket. They are only used for extreme emergencies.

He’s not the smartest cookie in the jar but he isn’t an idiot either. You don’t hang around the smartest ninja in the village with out picking up some sensibilities after a while. Though he’s no strategist he is competent and able to get a job done. In other important fields of the Shinobi he could be classified as average. Truly his greatest strength, outside of his loyal and kind heart, is his strength!

Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them?
With his abilities to control his chakra I feel that he has a supernatural enough reason to be pulled by the core. He’s also not one to use his abilities too often as he’d rather not have to fight so I don’t think he really has much that should be restricted either. He’s a strong boy and a good fighter with a heart of gold.

Weapons:
Just the standard bunch of hidden ninja gears. Mostly a few kunai and exploding tags in his pack. Nothing outstanding and abnormal. No special weapons that do outstanding things. As stated above in abilities he has a small case of pills that he doesn’t intend to use, tucked away in a utility pack.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
"Chouji, you've got a kinder heart than anyone I know. There will be someone who will see that in you and become your friend. If you meet him, treat him as your best friend, and become comrades who will trust in each other more than anything else." ~ Akimichi Chouza

Character History:
Narutopedia is one of the best places to find a full history for Chouji. It can be found here! There is also a LOT of his first half of the series history to be found at Ninjaleaf dot com. Both sites give a lot of information and technical data from which I’m working with.

Point in Canon:
Mid Pain Invasion Arc - Chapter 427 page 10
I will be pulling him from the middle of a war on Konoha Village. The invasion of Pain has started and he and his father had just assisted Kakashi in trying to take one version of Pain out. The point I am taking him from he has just informed the fifth Hokage (village leader) what this version of Pain’s abilities are and the short span of time it takes for him to be able to use this ability again.

Chouji believed his father and others were killed on the battle field but the Hokage informed him otherwise and that he should hurry to them and get them to the hospital. Chouji asked about Kakashi but Tsunade didn’t say anything. Instead she told him to hurry. Understanding what has happened, he took off to get his father in the hope to save him. It will be at this point that Chouji will find himself crashing into a very misplaced baseball diamond, worried and wondering what will happen to his father and believing that Kakashi is dead and the village lay in ruins.

Character Personality:
I’m not sure what it is about his personality that I find it hard to put down into simple words. He’s such a surprising character who doesn’t seem to have much personality at all and yet is over flowing with the subtle and lovely details I love to play. This has been edited, rearranged, moved around and redone so many times now that it comes out a little disjointed, I suppose, but they are all important points on the character. He’s a good guy, if very little known, and he’s loyal to those he befriends, especially his team mates. Let us see if I can manage to get it out for all to see as well.

Chouji is a large young man with a huge appetite for food and a small tendency of comedic temper tantrums when someone calls him fat. He’s a kind hearted boy who would rather be out helping others instead of being in the middle of a fight.

Food is a high motivator for this boy. It is something he needs to help him process chakra and use his techniques but there is a small obsession to it all as well. For one, he’s vowed never to let anyone have the last chip in the bag of potato chips, which Shikamaru has used to get him riled up enough to come out and join him for a mission (Sasuke retrieval arc). To entice him to do something he doesn’t want to do, one simply needs to offer him up some Korean Barbeque; the job will get done, especially if you are the one paying (like in the Chunnin exams). He’s not dreadfully picky either, as long as it tastes good, but he is a fan of junk food, chips especially.

As explained before, his eating habits are not a random habit of stuffing his face with food but something that is needed to help conserve and store calories in order to convert them into chakra. Because he eats so much and more then likely because of genetics he grew up a large little boy, chubby and round faced. This of course caused some self-esteem issues for the large boy. It is something that he has struggled with for years and years now, but he’s growing slowly out of it. His confidence in himself and his abilities used to be very low, as he was sure he was the worst of the group, but because of his friend he learned he wasn’t as worthless as he might have thought. It has taken some time but he’s growing up out of that, learning to be as confident as his father!

He does however, as said before, have a short fused temper when ever someone implies that he’s ‘fat’. He gets unreasonably annoyed and is willing to yell, fight and correct them of their ways! After all he’s not fat; he is big boned, chubby and plump! Friends have learned to hush people before they say the F word around him. He’s much less swift to jump into a temper tantrum over this but he’s still easily goaded into fits none the less. Age has helped him control this but not fully. This also applies to people talking about his friends and sensei.

Though he treats most people with respect there are a few people he holds in the highest regards. His father has been a great influence and someone he looks up to for not only help in family techniques but how to live his life and be happy. Sarutobi Asuma Sensei was another adult figure in his life that he looked up to. The team leader and his teacher, Asuma easily became someone Chouji trusted and admired, even if the man did poke at him to train more and eat less. When his sensei was killed by an Akatsuki member it hit him pretty hard, like most of the village; he gladly jumped at the chance to go with Shikamaru and Ino on mission to take care of their sensei’s murderer. One of the mans last requests was that he try to diet more, which is something he keeps in mind, from time to time, though not to hurt his abilities or anything.

The other two people held close to his heart are his teammates. Yamanaka Ino can be a brash and loud young woman who isn’t afraid to speak up and tell you her mind, but she’s also someone he trusts and cares deeply for. She’s vain and always picks on his weight or eating habits, but he knows she cares and is even willing to humor her (but only once in a great while! If it was up to her he’d never be able to eat again, he’s sure of that!). He has a lot of respect for the girl and knows she is stronger then some might believe. He’s protective of her, more so then most other girls it seems, though she can handle herself someone has to help look after her body while she’s working her ninja magic!

This leaves the most important person to him; Nara Shikamaru. Not only is the boy his teammate but also his first true friend. As a child Chouji was a chubby slow thing that was always picked last for playing ninja games. His father had always told him that one day he would find someone who would see him for who he is and be the truest friend to him there was. That same day Shikamaru had lazily defended him to the other kids, and when they still wouldn’t take Chouji on their teams, he too wandered off. They sat and watched the clouds together, starting a new tradition as well as friendship. He’s considered Shikamaru his closest friend ever since and would do anything for him, all he has to do is ask.

Shikamaru has been the greatest influence on the boy while growing up. Chouji has very little self confidence which has been an issue even as a little child. People picking on him about his weight and habits have contributed to this of course but also his ever lacking abilities in the class room and training grounds. He and many other people always considered him to be the weakest person on the team or in the class; Shikamaru however believed differently. The boy trusted Chouji to handle Jiroubou while on a very important mission, leaving him behind to catch up later. The blunt show of trust in him is one of the factors that helped Chouji grow up a stronger ninja. The other was the fact that he actually beat Jiroubou, a monasteries shinobi who made fun of not only the group and Chouji but also Shikamaru. It was his last straw and he was determined to prove him and everyone else wrong.

This also shows his strong determination. Once his mind is made up he will push himself until he gets the results he desires. No one will eat the last chip in the sack, no one will call him fat and get away with it, and most importantly… no one talks bad about his best friend. In this life or death battle he took all three special pills that caused his body to produce more chakra then it should just so he had the power to take down the threat to the rest of the team. He risked his life to make sure the others were able to get away free and in doing it also proved that Shikamaru was right; he wasn’t the weakest there and he IS a valuable shinobi.

To summarize, Chouji is a large and friendly, kind hearted, young ninja who, though he has some self-esteem issues is really a trustworthy and loyal friends as well as talented Shinobi.

Character Plans:
For the most part the big guy isn’t the greatest conversationalist, but he’ll be able to manage talking to people here and there. He’ll want to regroup with the rest of those from his home, especially Shikamaru (and Ino if she’s around). He’ll be confused and upset at first, considering what is going on at the time of his pull.

I feel that after he starts getting used to being here he will start to explore a bit. First things first… food; some chips would be great and a Korean BBQ will pretty much own him. He’ll be anti-side, staying true neutral for the most part, though if it is needed of him, by his team, to take a side for information/infiltration reasons he would do it.

Chouji can be played on his own with ease or with castmates so I’m not too concerned about being a lone canon warrior or in a cast. He can manage on his own fine and is a kind friendly sort of guy. I want to believe that he will become curious enough to get to know people. Especially if people get past his large size. He’s not as short tempered as he was as a child, but I also expect a few short tempered ‘fatso’ battles to come around. As for jobs? I’m sure he could find something dealing with food somewhere. Or even something that would rely on his strength. I’m looking forward to seeing what possibilities will open up for him.

He’s a big guy :D.

Chouji is about five foot eight inches tall and nearly two hundred pounds in weight, though he carries it well through his body. His round and very kind looking face has two red swirls on each cheek. He has a wild mass of long chestnut brown hair that he wears in clumpy spikes. His normal attire consists of a long zip front red tunic over dark gray lose pants with matching protective armor on his chest, shoulders, arms and hips. His clan symbol stands out in red on his chest.

εїз.¸¸.•´¯`One - Video

[The video starts with an odd angle to a swirl on some boys cheek. He paused, drawing back, dark eyes looking squinted at the device. The image behind him appeared to be one of those rundown one bedroom spaces of the Tower Apartments. The window behind him was closed but you could see out at the rain and darkness of the night.]

I was told this will contact everyone. [There was a long awkward pause in which he wondered if he was being duped or not. He spoke again though, incase it helped.] I was also told there might be some people from Konoha here? If so… this is Chouji.

[There was yet another awkward pause, his stomach growling loudly enough that the video mic would pick it up. He frowned, flat eyed and tired looking.]

Six o’clock isn’t that late but its dark out. What time of year is it? How long does the night last here?

[And after a little oohoooh sound he sighed. Clearly someone was hungry on top of being worn out and dirty. He needed to get home to help his father, not sit here in the free apartment with no food!]

Third Person Sample
Many strange things had happened to him in his life, as short and danger filled as it had been, but really, one must admit that being dropped on ones large back side in the middle of a gloomy looking dirt field had to be one of the strangest. One moment he was drying tears from his eyes (his father was still alive, though Master Kakashi was not…) and trying to hurry, as the Godaime had insisted; the next he felt a strange sick pull at his belly, only to end up here.

The large shinobi was sprawled out in the middle of the dirt, a hand falling to his belly. It was odd to feel dizzy, considering how his attacks worked on the field, but this was different. This was a strange pulling in the pit of his belly that made him feel unwell. What made him feel worse was the gray sky above him, and the strange buildings around.

It didn’t take but a moment to be on his feet again, looking around the rundown lot in surprise. It was damp but not raining and the wind swept by him strongly, ruffling his hair. There was a smell to the place that didn’t match where he had been either. Nothing matched.

It really wasn’t this dark in the village just now. These buildings were… strange. The world just felt wrong. He didn’t like it. What he didn’t like most was that he should be on his way to take care of his father and not trying to figure out what the heck was going on!? Had he fallen into someone’s genjutsu? He spun, first left, then right, looking around but at the ready in case something strange was indeed going on. It all felt real, but it was also all wrong.

I have to get out of here. He thought to himself, starting towards the fence, a single jump and his tired feet landed with a odd grace for someone so big. He balanced there, crouched, hands on the edge between his large feet. Just as he started down the fence a howl, like a siren going off filled the air. Coming to the end of the fence he jumped down, not far from a tall sand colored towering building.

Just in front of the building he saw a person, running for the doors. They were dressed strangely and didn’t look like they were from Konoha at all (but by now he was sure he wasn’t home). I wonder… he called out, a hand cuffed around his cheek to help amplify his voice. “Hello? Hey, can you--” he sighed, frustrated as the person went inside.

His eyes widened in surprise as the world shifted around him, crumbling and deteriorating in an unnatural way. He was tired and battle weary, but he wasn’t that out of it. This wasn’t right and he wasn’t dumb enough to stick around and find out what was going on with it first hand. He took off for that building, ducking inside glass doors one moment before they clicked with a lock for the night.
