It is before dawn, before even the slight brightening indicating dawn is on the horizon, when Morgana is up and dressed and standing at the window. There wasn't much of a point in her trying to go to bed. How she managed to put the girls to bed the night before without betraying what could only be defined as fear, is a miracle in itself

There's a slight rumbling of the stands when she does so.

he doesn't even realise Percival and Gwaine have run over until the former puts a hand on his shoulder.
He can't even think...

It's a little (and she's too shocked to notice if she is called that) girl who has just just realized there's nothing at all to be done for one of her guardians. She's approaching very slowly, as if uncertain what she's supposed to do.

She ceases screaming. She ceases doing much at all. She knows she should get her ward off the field but finds she can't pull herself away from the body. Instead, she looks at Arthur, the ways she did her first night back in Camelot, when she had to ask for his help to go into the palace.
"Arthur," her voice is lost. He wouldn't have heard that particular tone for years. The last time she sounded as sound, she was much smaller, and she once asked the same question of Uther, except he couldn't answer her. "What do I do?"

She's asking him something...and she looks so small and scared. He shakes himself out of his stupour and leans down to pick her up. "It'll be...I'll take care of you."

"I should stay with him. I promised I would stay with him," though it was meant as a lifelong promise, she attests to it now. It means little now that he's gone.
She doesn't cry when carried off the field, but she does realize she has one other important responsibility. "Carys," she looks in the direction of her elder ward, who is still standing, slightly on the field, looking a great deal like a lost bird -- a lost sparrow.
It's at this moment her dream makes perfect sense, too little too late.

HOW? Will he tell Guinevere?
When Morgana mentions her ward, Arthur looks as well. The sight of poor Carys looking so lost and alone...at least the boys have Rose.
He immediately makes his way towards Morgana's ward, determined to carry both of them if need be.

There is one way to get Carys to immediately do something, ask for her help. "Carys, my dove, would you come inside with me?" Her voice is still a bit hoarse, and very soft, but it gets the girl's attention.
She looks back at Arthur, "We would prefer her company, would we not?" It's almost unnaturally calm, as she feels she has to be for her ward.

Holding Morgana up with one arm - she really is still much too thin - he holds his hand out to Carys for her to take.

Putting her head on her brother's shoulder, she pays attention to only Carys and to Arthur, but says nothing else.
Equally quiet is Carys who takes Arthur's hand.

There doesn't seem to be a single sound, as if all of Camelot has fallen silent.
Arthur supposes he should find some small comfort in the fact that Merlin will be missed, but he doesn't.

She thinks she should've locked him in a room and taken his place on the field. She shouldn't have let someone else fight her battles.
There's another thought, a desire to send a messenger out to Mordred to demand her ring back so that Merlin can be buried with it.
There's a desire for vengeance. It's a small kernel now but it will blossom.
Finally, there's a desire just to hold onto her brother, to kiss her wards, to hug her nephews, and take Gwen her tea, something, anything that her broken emotions will let her show those she has left.

He's not sure where Merlin will go...he looks quickly over his shoulder to Leon who is helping carry the warlock's body. Leon mouth's the words 'Physician's chambers'.
Swallowing hard Arthur turns back to Morgana. "They'll lay him to rest in his old chambers. You can go and stay with him when you're ready."
He gives Carys's hand a squeeze. "You too."

"Someone will be with him until then?" There's something fundamentally wrong if the body isn't being attended to by a multitude of people. Merlin would have preferred the attention. All she's looking for is a little reassurance.

He'll take them both back to Morgana's chambers, and then steady himself to deliver the horrible news to Guinevere...
