Merlin & Morgana: post feast exiledskeptic March 27 2011, 00:49:28 UTC
Morgana's been searching for intended since leaving Hunith. She's concerned for him, with the arrival of Mordred, and even more concerned given that Hunith had to learn of the engagement publicly. This, to Morgana, tells her far more about Merlin's emotional state than anything he's said.

Finally, she comes across him. She doesn't like the fact he is alone. That is one thing she wants more than anything with this marriage, that neither of them, so set apart by everything they've done, will have to be alone.

"I spoke to your mother."

After his short confrontation with Cadoc, he spent some time amongst the thinning crowd. He made a point to converse with as many of the community as would speak with him, as well as spending a few moments with the Knight's to raise his spirits a little.

This may have been done by Gwaine insisting on his drinking a great deal more than he normally would agree to. However, as his old friend said, you will only get one engagement celebration, take advantage of it.

Now however, Merlin is back alone, in fact he was nearly dozing in his corner. Startled by Morgana's sudden conversation, he almost slips off the side of his chair.

The slipping tells her almost everything she needs to know.

"What have you been doing, other than not telling your mother of our engagement?"

She knows, she just wants to see how badly he slurs.

Merlin's sheepish expression is just another dead giveaway.

"Jus a'few drinks w'the boys." It will take Merlin a good several seconds to process the fact that he's being called out on forgetting something very important. At which point he make a somewhat distressed sound.

"Oh, no... is she mad?"

Morgana moves from the doorway to in front of him. Eying him clinically, there are several, impolite terms to describe his current state. Morgana knows them all, as living the way she has means she's been introduced to a variety of colourful language.

"You were never much of a drinker. Should you have had more than two, you will not remember this tomorrow, so you will have a whole new opportunity to learn of your mother's," Morgana thinks of the best word to describe it, "annoyance her only son neglected to tell her of his betrothal."

His crushed face is almost a match for Arthur's now. "Oh, no." He may repeat that several times tonight. "Should I go speak with her?"

Merlin attempts to get up from the chair now, and he does succeed, but he wobbles just a bit more than is good for him.

"I do not think you should speak to your mother in this condition, no." She tilts her head to the side, and as morally questionable as it is to take advantage of someone in this state, Morgana knows it's the easiest way to get an honest answer from him.

Though she does wait until he's standing somewhat steadily on his feet. She starts to reach out her hand to steady him, but pulls it back when he doesn't appear about to fall.

"Why did you not tell her about us?"

"Meant to." In fact, Merlin had intended to tell her about all of the things involving Morgana. However as things were wont to do, one event after another just prolonged the delay.

"I forgot." He takes her hand anyway. Leaning closer to her out of natural inclination and the mistake sensation of a tilted stone floor.

"You forgot to tell your mother?" When he takes her hand, she automatically holds it a little tighter, instead of being passive.

When Merlin leans closer, she tilts her head, still assessing him. "I had to answer her questions. That should have been your duty."

Telling him off serves no purpose either, as he won't remember it. "You need to go to bed. You were never able to handle any wine. I suspect this is the fault of the knights."

"Mmmmhm." The man is nearly asleep on his feet.

"I will tell her in the morning." He promises sincerely. "Always have duties.. will handle it, you're lovely."

Merlin who has always had a fondness for Morgana's adorable nose, leans down to nuzzle it with his own. The motion is a bit clumsy, but still soft. "Shh. Don't tell Gwaine, but I think he's sleeping under the table."

"I will remind you of that." And Morgana will, no matter how much his head hurts in the morning.

Considering the sweetness of the gesture, she could care less about the clumsiness of it. She lifts her other hand to his cheek, "I am tired, and you are seeing three of me right now, I am sure," she doesn't sound half as severe as her words should.

As for Gwaine under the table, Morgana has to look, and giggles. She's always hated that she does that. "Then he is at fault for your state." Morgana's not mad as at least he isn't being maudlin. "You must sleep, as you still have duties."

There are times when her cruelty is incalculable, or so the soon to be hungover Merlin will claim.

"There is only one of you, and it is mine." He nuzzles into her hand and then giggles with her. "Sleep sounds lovely too."

It's not Morgana's fault that even his future wife can handle alcohol better than he can.

She strokes her thumb on his cheek. "One of me, I promise you, is yours, but given the number of men today who seem to want to dispute that, I might need there to be three of me." Her tone is light and teasing, as he's in just about the perfect mood to both tell him of, and hope he'll forget later, Mordred's offer.

A midget fox would be able to handle alcohol better than Merlin, but that is beside the point.

"Oh no?" He is a bit confused now, he knows of Urien, but then they would only need a spare Morgana, and anyway he would not be allowed her. So Merlin would keep both happily.. well, as much as it is possible to handle two Morganas.

For all his ego, alcohol tolerance can never be a source of pride for Merlin.

For the record, it would be impossible to handle two Morganas, let alone three.

"Yes, I had another offer today from an unexpected party. I do not think the idea we are engaged has been accepted by everyone." Her tone is still light because the identity of the person who made the offer will probably come as a surprise. Then again, she knows nothing of his earlier encounter with Cadoc.

Ah, but Merlin excells in the impossible.

He makes an interested sound, though really as he seems to be more interested in wrapping his arms around Morgana and snuggling, it could be just a polite inquiry.

The count would then put them up to four, and I think the world would agree, that could be disastrous.
