Next he must seek Arthur out. It is not even a question of the desire to see his friend, there is a need that compels Merlin to find the King. He does not need to ask, he simply follows his instincts. Which lead Merlin out to the training grounds. The morning is bright and crisp, and there is only one man current working off his frustrations in the early hour. Perhaps this is the only time that Arthur has to himself.

Well.. hopefully he will not begrudge Merlin the intrusion. "I still think you are the world's biggest prat."

He grins as he leans on the fence, waiting for Arthur to turn and face him.

Arthur is far from his usual precise self, he's pretty much hacking the dummy to bits.

"Leave me-" He begins, turning ready to tear into whoever it is.

Then his sword drops from his hand.

"I can't." It's a simple answer, but a very true one.

Merlin moves past the fence and towards Arthur. He's hoping that he's a little more dignified in how he looks, because he's certainly nothing of the sort in how he feels.

He's greeting Arthur with a fast hug, a kind of fierce joy as he holds his friend tightly. Merlin even kisses him, though it's not a romantic gesture, but a brotherly affection. He can't help but smile as a fool to be here, at Arthur's side. "You're not getting rid of me, it seems."

Merlin will be treated with facing an Arthur who's completely and utterly speechless with disbelief.

"Merlin?" He all but squeaks, cerain he must have gone off the deep end...seeing things...

And then there's the hug...and...

"Merlin!"

"I told you I loved you." But now Merlin is just teasing him, and really, one could be excused a few eccentric behaviors when one returns from the dead.

"I'm not leaving you here alone, clotpole. You'll just have to deal with it." He looks over Arthur as if searching for any injuries, which is fairly amusing considering which of them was most recently shot. "And it seems that your bargain was successful. My magic was returned."

Yes, Merlin knows what you did with Excalibur, and he's not very pleased with that.

Arthur would normally blush like an idiot and tell Merlin off for being all... emotional, but he's just too...

"Merlin! How...where...how...what..."

Poor guy, he should probably sit down.

He'll probably have trouble even remember what Excalibur is in this state!

If Arthur needs something to lean on, Merlin can certainly hold his King up.

"I was dead.. I went to Avalon." The warlock's expression gets a bit winsome. He cannot remember exactly what it was like there, or rather the memory is hidden from him with good reason. As he would not have wanted to leave the lance of eternal youth.

Mortals may only catch a glimpse of it at the moment of death, but it seemed that Merlin was welcomed there as a part of the old magic.

"But I could not stay, you are still my destiny."

Well that's good, because the King might fall down...and that would just be undignified.

"Avalon...? What did you -" he shakes his head.

And then starts laughing. "Your destiny, I'm not sure if Morgana will care for that."

"Oh, shut up, you know that's not what I mean." But he grumbles in good nature and can't help but hug Arthur once more.

Dignity is something that they're going to have to forget at the moment.

No indeed, in fact Arthur might sniffle a bit.

Then surreptiously try to look like he's not wiping tears from his eyes. Because only girls cry.

But he'll hug Merlin right back.

Girls, and Merlin, but that's beside the point. He will try not to look as fondly at Arthur as he is. There is nothing that can be said that is not already evident between them. Merlin has never had a brother, Arthur is sometimes more than that, but it is the closest thing that Merlin can understand.

"..I hope there hasn't been a mess of things without me." And yet, some part of Merlin almost wishes there was.

Arthur shakes his head. If he'd had any suspicions that this wasn't the real Merlin, that remark would have made it clear.

"They say I've got a big ego." He smiles wryly. "Well...a little bit maybe..."

He grins a little ruefully. It is very true, Merlin can't help but find his own importance appealing. At least he's aware of that.

"You do. I'm sure that's where I learned it from." That's not true, but it's amusing to claim.

Arthur grins right back, then a serious look comes over his face and he sets his jaw.

"Urien has become a danger to us all, notwithstanding what he did to you," and Arthur will never be able to think of that without a shudder. "Gwaine and Elyan were captured and almost killed trying to find Vanadis. He needs to be stopped."

Merlin nods in understanding. He suspects that the King that had him killed was likely going to continue to be a threat to them. Even though Merlin had freed Morgana from the contract.

..and thinking of Morgana is going to make Merlin hold a hand to Arthur's shoulder.

"I agree that something must be done, Arthur. I will support whatever decision to come to, know that. However- before I can even begin to think on this matter, I must see Morgana."

If he doesn't see her soon, Merlin is not sure he can think of anything else.
