Ship Manifesto:: Rumbelle

Oct 08, 2013 18:49

So, my original draft of this manifesto read: Because, duh., but that fell about 498 words short of the limit. :/ To be completely honest, I have no idea what a manifesto is, and I try to avoid writing non-fiction like the plague (plus, I really don't believe love can be defined and I also hate trying to push my beliefs on people), so I decided to pick the top five qualities I love in Rumbelle and write (about) 100 words about each. So, fingers crossed, guys. Let's go. Also, I've been doing a Pretty Little Liars Big Bang, so I hope this is in English. It's pretty hard to switch from Lucas Gottesman to Rumple-freaking-stiltskin.

#1. Love is layered. Love is a mystery to be uncovered.
There's something there that wasn't there before.

Love at first sight is awesome and all, but to me, there's nothing better than getting to the heart of things and getting to really, truly know someone- even when what you find out isn't the greatest. You can have your Snows and Charmings, with their picture perfect, cookie cutter love (which I'm a fan of also, don't get me wrong), but to me there's just something so much more magical about really knowing a person and still loving them, warts and all (or, you know, gold skin and rotten teeth and all). Of course, Belle's something of an open book, so it's not super hard for Rumple to get to know her, but I love that Belle is willing to take the time to get to know all about Rumple, and to find the good in him even when it seems to everyone else (including him) that there really is none.

#2. You really are as dark as people say.
If you want it to be good, girl, get yourself a bad boy.

Okay, let's just get one thing straight. Good girls love bad boys. It is a law of the universe, and it cannot be helped. And do you know why? Because we all think we'll be the special snowflake (no pun intended) to see the hidden goodness inside the bad boy and make him over into the sweet and cuddly leather-bound puppy dog we've always wanted. And in real life, that never, ever, ever works! But Belle is the lucky one amongst us to actually find a bad boy with a heart of gold (pun totally intended this time). Sure, he likes to turn people into slugs occasionally, but who doesn't? And really, she's got him pretty whipped. He even found a way to not kill Regina just because Belle asked (Yeah, yeah, the wraith. Technicalities, dearie). And, of course, it's every good girl's secret wish to let go and be a bad girl even for a little while, which is why Lacey makes sense even though I hate her with the fires of a thousand suns. I mean, come on. If you can't raise a little hell with the man you love, who can you raise hell with?

Plus, did I mention the leather? Who doesn't love a guy in leather? And also, the crazy ones are totally the best in bed.

#3. I learned a long time ago, that when you find something that's worth fighting for, you never give up.

I absolutely hate it with a passion when people talk about how love and relationships is so much work. I don't believe that at all, and neither, I think, does Belle. Because the work people are always blathering on about is usually about forgiving and putting up with the other person. But Belle just does that. It is completely part and parcel as far as she is concerned, and you don't have to work at something that comes naturally to you. It's not work, it's just part of the job description. Is Rumplestiltskin the easiest person to love or live with? Absolutely not. But like Belle says, he's worth it. So it's not really about working at all. It's about having enough faith in that other person to honestly say you'll never give up on him.

#4. And all you'll have is an empty heart, and a chipped cup.
ALL THE ANGSTS!!!!!

One of my favorite quotes is from Doctor Who, and it goes, "It's [sadness] happy for deep people." That quote kind of describes me perfectly in a nutshell. Which is one of the reasons why Rumbelle is the perfect ship. Because 1). Yeah, good girls like bad boys, but then they always genuinely feel surprised or hurt when the bad boy is bad, and 2). the writers clearly hate Rumbelle fans and are cruising for a bruising. I stopped believing that this show will ever give anyone a happy ending sometime right around "Lacey." Listen, a real life relationship like this would be the most stressful thing ever, but watching it from the outside is the most amazing drama in the world. Not that I would miss the angst if the writers decided it was happy ending time for Rumbelle. But it is quite delicious while it's going on even when I want to kill someone because of it.

#5. Love is hope. It fuels our dreams.
I think this speaks for itself (and not just because I've already hit 500 words). It speaks to my complete and total inability to define love. Love is magic, love is hope. Love is everything.

In conclusion:
