20 drabbles under the cut

1. Angry

Killian’s mother had taught him to forgive. While many of the lessons that his mother had taught him had stuck with him; that one was one he couldn’t follow. Besides, he told himself, he was a pirate. And pirates see rules as merely guidelines.

Due to the curse, Killian was a little unsure of how much time had passed, but he could never forgive that damn crocodile. The losses were too much. Mila. His hand.

The hook was an ever present reminder of what he had lost. The phantom pain from his hand was a constant source of anger. That anger that was driving him to Storybrooke.

2. Sad

It was for the best, really. What kind of life could she provide for a kid? Emma had no family, no job, no home (a jail cell certainly didn’t count; and a VW bug was no place to raise a baby).

The kid deserved a chance. A better chance than she’d ever gotten. The papers in front of her assured that the baby would be adopted by a kind and loving family, one that would provide for him. Her kid wouldn’t be abandoned by the side of the road.

She loved the kid, and it wasn’t even born yet.

Emma cried as she signed the papers.

3. Silly

“Seriously, Henry?” Charming asked his grandson. “I don’t really think that bodies were meant to bend this way.”

“Grandpa.” Henry rolled his eyes. “Everybody’s doing this dance. It’s totally awesome. Now watch me again.” Henry pushed play on his I-Pod and then started to dance the Gangam style dance.

Charming tried to copy Henry’s moves and failed miserably.

Snow and Emma were rolling on the floor dancing.

“Don’t give up your day job, Dad.” Emma giggled.

“What? You think you can do better?” He asked.

“Not with that dance, but...” Emma stood up and did a perfect version of the Macarena.

4. Celebration

“This is hardly the wedding night I wanted you to have, Snow.” Charming said, looking around at the simple tent they’d set up. “You deserve a fancy royal wedding, with the best of everything, and a million guests....”

“I have the best of what matters.” Snow said, cutting him off. “I have you. I don’t need marble halls or diamond sunbursts- all I need is you! And I cherish the fact that your mother was able to be at our wedding. That was worth more than anything.”
“But....what did I do to deserve you?”

“Whatever you want.” Snow replied. “Right now, I just want to enjoy our wedding night.”

5. Love

Love was a weakness. Regina had loved few people in her life genuinely- possibly her father, most certainly Daniel, and most amazingly- her mother.

Regina had resigned herself to a life without love. Not a life without sex, mind you- but a life without commitment and emotion.

Until Henry. She loved her son, completely. Enough to trust him. Enough to let him go.

His biological family saw love as a strength- they grew stronger because of their love for one another.

As Henry walked away with his biological family, Regina felt incredibly lonely. She had love, but that love was still a weakness.

6. Crossover

Hook frowned as he looked at the empty shelves in his island storage. These shelves should have been full of bottles of rum. Instead they were completely empty.

“But why is the rum gone?!” He thundered, letting the entire crew know of his displeasure.

“Why so serious? What’s a little rum between friends.”

Hook snarled- he knew that voice. “Captain Jack Sparrow. I should have known better. Have you lost your ship again?”

“On the contrary,” Jack answered, “I have a very good idea where my ship is. I just happen not to be in possession of it at the moment.”

7. Villain

If the story had been written differently, Regina wouldn’t be thought of as a villain.

If you heard a story about a girl who was forced into a loveless marriage (after the cruel murder of her one true love), you’d be sympathetic. If you heard about how she had a cruel stepdaughter who ruined her life, Snow wouldn’t seem like a hero. If you heard how she bravely decided to make a happy ending for herself, you’d root for her.

If you see Regina as a villain, perhaps you’re reading the story wrong. Did you check to see who the author is? Pinocchio is hardly a reliable narrator.

8. Black & White

Waking up from the curse had been like watching The Wizard of Oz. The movie started out in a normal world, shot in black and white. But when Dorothy wakes up in Oz, everything was in brilliant Technicolor.

Living as Mary Margaret in Storybrooke was average. She was a single teacher with romance problems. But remembering the Enchanted Forest, remembering her life as Snow White, her life as Charming’s wife, was brilliant.

She finally felt like herself. And oh, that was a delicious feeling. If this was a dream, Snow never wanted to wake up. Black and white, though lovely, was no substitute for color.

9. Hero

Henry handed Regina a handmade thank you card. Made of construction paper and marker, it was hardly a work of art, but the simple gesture still brought tears to her eye.

“What’s this for, Henry?”

“It’s because you listened to me. You trusted me, and you stopped the spell on the well. You saved Emma and Mary Margaret, and you brought them home. And that was awesome.”

Henry hugged her close. “You’re my hero, Mom.”

“You’re my son. Of course I trust you.” Regina held Henry tight. “You better get a move on, I don’t want you to be late for school.”

10. Team

Hook was going to get to Storybrooke, no matter what. It didn’t matter who won this little battle. He had an ace up his sleeve- well, rather a bean around his neck.

He sided with Emma and her band of Princesses for as long as they seemed to be in control; and he’d had an alliance with Cora that had been quite beneficial over the years.

He was a pirate. He was most certainly not a team player. Hook would be on whoever’s team suited his needs most. He had a powerful need for revenge that would only be met by humiliating and slaying a crocodile.

Emma....

and Snow

Snow couldn’t sleep. Aurora was sitting across the fire, staring off into the sky. Sleeping curses would do that to you. Snow nodded at Aurora, and then looked down at her daughter.

Emma. Snow had always imagined having a daughter that was her best friend; but she never expected it to happen this way. Snow thought of all that she’d missed in twenty eight years of her daughter’s life. She was so angry at this damn curse, at the stolen time she’d never recover.
Emma would not miss life with Henry. Snow vowed to herself that she would get Emma back to Storybrooke, no matter what the cost.

and Charming

“So,” Emma shifted back and forth nervously. This was her father. Her own flesh and blood- it shouldn’t be scary to talk to him. “I’ve heard that you did a really good job filling in as Sheriff while I was gone.”

“It felt good to make a difference. I was glad to do it.”

“Well, as Sheriff, I am allowed to hire a deputy. And since the curse broke, there’s certainly a need for greater police presence in town, as people are remembering their own true natures. If you’d be interested, I’d like to offer you a job as my deputy.”

“I can think of nothing I’d like better.”

and Henry

“I’m so glad you’re home, Mom.” Henry said, fighting back a yawn. “I missed you so much.”

“You too, kid.” Emma sat down on the bed beside him. “I’m not planning on travelling anywhere for a long time. So what’s your normal bedtime routine? Shadow puppets? A story? Monster check?”

“I’m too old for monsters. Could you tell me about the Enchanted Forest? I wanna hear all about your adventures. And we need to light the candle. Grandpa says it’ll keep the dreams away.”

Emma lit the candle and sat down beside Henry, telling him all about the adventures in the other dimension. Before long, they were both asleep.

and August

He’d been selfish for so long. He’d left her behind in the system. He could have stayed with Emma, or taken her with him.

Or he could have come back for her sooner. August had been keeping track of her over the years. And when he did come back, he ruined her relationship and stole her money and ran away.

No wonder she didn’t believe him. No wonder she didn’t trust him.

Now he was able to blend into the woodwork, literally. He was alive, but an grown up wooden puppet. He couldn’t talk to her. Not now, when he’d grown to love her. August wasn’t good enough for her.

and Hook

“Do you have a thing for me in handcuffs?” Hook winked at her. “Because really, Emma. You can skip all this pretense. All you have to do is ask.”

“Look, Hook. This is my world, and I’m the law here. And you’re under arrest for being a giant pain in my ass, as well as breaking several laws. We don’t take kindly to pirates here.”

“All I’m trying to do is get a little revenge. Surely you understand that. There’s even a whole television show about it.”

“I’m not Mr. Gold’s biggest fan, but I can’t exactly let you murder him. I swore an oath to protect people.”

1.

Emma was excited! She had a new dress, and it spun out in the most delightful way when she danced. The shoes were shiny and new- she could see her reflection in them. Today was a very special day! She was being adopted! This was the most awesome day ever, in her whole entire six years.

Emma clung unto the social worker’s hand. “Emma,” She said, as they entered a brightly colored room. “This is your new mother. Say hi to Ms. Mills.”

Ms. Mills was beautiful, with raven dark hair and a beautiful smile.

“Come to mommy, Emma.” She instructed. And Emma did so, gladly.

2.

“I am never going to get this.” Emma sighed. “I’m hopeless.”

“Nonsense.” Charming said. “You’ve great form and a natural talent. You just need a little training. Sword fighting isn’t something you pick up in just one day.”

“I was able to kill a dragon the first time I picked up a sword.”

“That was sheer luck. You won’t get lucky every time. Which is why need to work on your sword handling technique a little. Forutnately, you’ve got a great trainer.”

“Oh yeah?” Emma smiled. “Where is he?”

“Those, my dear daughter, are fighting words.” Charming laughed.

“With pleasure, old man.”

3.

“Oh, it doesn’t show signs of stopping,” Charming sang

“Would you please stop?” Snow groaned

“And I brought some corn for popping” Emma joined in,

“Really, this kind of torture just isn’t fair!” Snow protested.

“The lights are turned way down low,” Henry chimed in.

“Even my own Grandson turns on me.” Snow sighed.

“Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow!” They sang together.

“Just wait until I find carols with your names in them.” Snow sighed. :I may even write some myself.”

“There’s always O come, O come Emma- manuel.” Henry joked.

“Now there’s the ticket!” Mary Margaret smiled.

4.
“I don’t want to fall asleep.” Charming said fighting off a yawn. “I think this might have just been a dream, and I’ll wake up, and you won’t be here.”

“I ‘m not going anywhere. I’m finally here, where I want to be. With you. I love you so much.” Snow kissed him deeply. “I promise you, this is not a dream.”

Snow got out of bed and lit a candle. “Remember when you did this for me? You saved me, Charming, a million times over. And if you ever need saving, I promise you that I’ll be there for you.”

5.

“You can’t hide forever, you know.” Henry said to August. “You have to come out of the woodwork sometime.”

“If you knew all the things I’ve done, I doubt you’d feel the same way, Henry. I deserve this punishment. I’m not a nice person.”

“People can change. You can always turn over a new leaf.”

“Very funny, going with the tree joke.” August sighed, not an easy trick to do when you are made of wood. “I don’t deserve forgiveness.”

“But people will offer it anyway.” Henry shook his head. “I’ll bring you more food tomorrow, okay?”

“Thanks, Henry.” August replied.
