aaaaah, elfie, elfie, i had no idea DDDD: and trust me when i say i'm really, really sorry. i know what it's like to feel kind of messed up after reading something, and i'm sorry for springing that on you. D: and no, i do think it's a real criticism, because i have a problem with giving warnings - in that i hardly ever do it. i just think and think about it until it seems less provocative and/or controversial than it was, and that's really not the spirit with which to give warnings. hmm, i shall approach this with more thought next time and be sure to warn more liberally.
on another note, though... (BUT STOP HERE if you don't want to read anything about the fic) i honestly wasn't thinking of alzheimer's when i wrote that aiba/nino fic. it was loosely based on yoko ogawa's book the housekeeper and the professor. the professor has only eighty minutes of memory, and that was the sort of nino i had in mind when i was writing it - someone who has lost his long-term memory, and doesn't have a clearly-defined sense of the past anymore. but his ability to remember is more amorphous than an eighty-minute timeframe, so while that's painful it's also hopeful. it just so happened that they were old, so alzheimer's seemed to fit? i was initially a bit surprised when it was interpreted as such. but it's true that my concept is very similar to the disease, anyway. all things considered i ought to have warned for memory issues. /end direct mention of the fic
once again i apologize for any undue mental duress i may have caused you. ): thank you for letting me know, okay! ♥
of course i meant to respond to this days ago! sorry, gee! ♥!!
thank you for the response! i am also, frankly, terrible at warnings. i only really regularly use the ao3 warnings and then try to tag for major themes, but i also feel like...to be frank, i don't tend to stray from a few things (porn, warm and fuzzy feelings, more porn), so i am definitely not coming from some place of real authority. just a place as someone who has been ~~burned. XD
i'm--very slowly--trying to train myself into having content notes, which might be an easier way to think about it, i think. but lj also has a spoiler tag, now, so if you wanted to have content notes/warnings without giving anything away to someone who still wanted to figure it out for themselves, you could use that!
