"You'll be late for breakfast, love," Cordelia said softly as she started on her way up the stairs. It was pretty obvious that she had just woken, and found her husband gone. She paused, taking a good look around. Wow, the stands looked fantastic! "Merlin, love, how long have you been up? You shoulda woke me up.. you know I'd help. Make the work less for you, yeah?"

Of course she didn't mind getting to sleep in. Imagine Cordelia up at the crack of dawn? She wasn't like Laurie - she couldn't go off of mere hours of sleep. It wasn't that she'd be grumpy, oh no. But when tired, she tended to get this almost absent sort of happiness that even she couldn't really stand so much.

Laurie grinned at the sound of her voice, and used his legs to push himself to the side, peering around the edge of the stands at her. He waved his paintbrush in greeting, then swung back to keep going.

"Almost done," he replied, sweeping up and down happily. While his wife had a knack for painting beautiful pictures, he appreciated the smoothness of a good old-fashioned paint job. His brow furrowed, and he turned his head to call after her again.

"Late? What time is it??"

Oh, it was a bit chilly outside! She folded her arms over her chest tightly, hugging herself to keep warm. "You would set out to paint before the sun's even decided to make a show for the day, wouldn't you? Silly Laurie," she replied with a smile. "And it's absolutely freezing outside! Aren't you cold? Should I fetch a blanket for you?"

As she spoke, she slowly made her way up the steps, smiling. "And it's half past eight, love." Once she finally reached him, she gently ran her hand down his back, as if to just let him know that she was there. "If you've still got a bit left, I can get something for you!"

Half past eight?

Laurie looked up, brow furrowed as he examined the sun. It wasn't too far from being directly overheard, so he looked back at her with his brow quirked.

"All right, then," he replied, fighting to not grin. She probably felt better, thinking she'd woken up at a decent hour. When it so obviously was not.

He snorted softly to himself, quite sure that if she went looking for breakfast she'd not find it. "That's all right, love," he replied, grinning to himself. "Thank you, though."

Obviously, Cordelia was not quite awake at the moment. She always woke up around noon, and for some reason, that day? She felt as if she had actually done a touch better.

Pity Laurie, though, for the fact that he'd later have to explain to her where all those hours went away to.

With a sigh, she dropped down to sit on the bench near him, minding herself to make sure she didn't catch any paint on the way down. "Got an owl from my dad," she added as an afterthought. "Said things at the ministry are incredibly tense! Mum went home early yesterday.. ill, she was! I can just imagine. One of the Governors has went missing, he says.. not showed up for work all week!"

Laurie's brow rose. "Missing? Who's that, love?" He quickly slipped back into concentration, tugging the rope to pull him higher up. "I can think of a couple who I'd like to go missing," he mumbled, brow furrowing again as he swept the paint over the wood.

Nearly done.

He looked up, eyes squinting against the sunlight as he surveyed the remainder of the stands. Not too much further at all. He supposed he'd break before painting the last one.

"How're you feeling?" he added, feeling slightly awkward. Didn't women get sick when they were pregnant? Morning sickness, or some business like that?

Merlin. Delia was hardly up in the morning. Much less sick.

Cordelia shrugged. "Not sure. He's not mentioning names.. never know when owls might get intercepted, he says. But lots of the Death Eaters have gone missing, yeah? Trying to fix things or what have you... Merlin, you don't think they'll come here, do you?"

Fingertips drummed against her stomach as she sat there. No, she still wasn't showing too terribly much, but it was still enough for her to acknowledge it. As he asked how she was feeling, she looked up to him, smiling. "I'm fine. Bit winded, I think. I've been so.. tired lately? Just.. " She paused, then held her arms out to her sides, swinging them as if they were just too heavy for her to hold up. "..tired."

Tired!? Merlin, she slept more than anyone he'd ever known, he didn't see how on earth she could be tired. Still, that concerned him, and he gave her a stern glare.

"You aren't getting enough rest," he replied gruffly. He frowned, then inched up the stands again.

"And no. I don't think any Death Eater would be stupid enough to come here. Especially with Him gone. They're probably all out either hiding, or coming up with ways to fool the Ministry. I guarantee we'll have loads of fakers."

He sighed, shaking his head as he painted. "Some aristocrat gets caught, blames his actions on the Imperius.." he sighed, shaking his head. He didn't want to say 'Like Chamberlayne' because, obviously, he really was Imperius'ed.

But people would use that excuse. He knew it.

Cordelia squeaked at his stern glare, bringing her hands up as if in surrender. "'Course I'm getting enough rest!" she replied, trying to not giggle. "I sleep eighty hours a day, love! You want me to sleep more? If I sleep any more, you'll not ever see me!"

She loved how overprotective Laurie was of her, really. So worried about everything. It made her feel so.. so loved. Not that she needed anything to remind her, but it was still comforting. Arms wrapped tightly around her frame as she watched him, smiling.

"Oh, 'course they won't come! They'd not be stupid enough to try to go up against Mister Laurence Ian Doyle. They know you're still here, so aye! They'll stay far away!" She, of course, could easily get that mental image. Lines and lines of Death Eaters waiting at the gate, ready to bust in, and ZOOM! THERE GOES LAURIE! And they all run away, squeaking 'Oh, oh no! We just can't handle this!'

He looked back at her, the corner of his mouth quirked slightly. "Too true," he murmured, before going back to his work. Eighty hours a day, indeed. "In fact, I was wondering when I should burst your proud little bubble to tell you that is far past eight-thirty."

He grinned wider, keeping his eyes off of her. He loved being able to read her reaction even without seeing her face. She always gave off such strong feelings -- he just knew she'd be prickling, all indignant-like, mouth agape at his accusation.

Then she'd probably look thoughtful, as if questioning the truth in his statement.

Adorable woman.

Beyond.. eight-thirty?

Cordelia looked up at him again, eyes slightly widened. Her mouth opened as she gave him a look that clearly read that he, in fact, must be out of his mind. Surely it wasn't beyond eight-thirty!! She had decided that she'd be awake at that exact time to give him a kiss before classes, for once, since their normal morning rituals included him kissing her into concious just long enough to have himself a good send off, then her wrapping herself up in the covers again to rest. So that morning? She decided that it wouldn't be the case, and he was telling her she had still managed to sleep in?

Surely not!!

But the more she thought about it, the more she was starting to wonder if she just slept so well and for so long, having not been woken at the crack of dawn when he left.. she was starting to wonder if he was right!

"....huh?"

His grin grew, and he gave a soft groan as he tugged himself up and hopped over the edge of the stands to land firmly inside, standing in front of her. "But, like I said, you need your rest, aye?" He grinned, then wrapped her up in a big, slightly sweaty, hot, muscly hug.

He gave her a loud, messy kiss atop her blonde head before pulling back and hopping down to the next row and holding out his hand.

"Shall we? I believe it's more of.. lunch-time, but I'm sure there is food in the Great Hall, regardless."

He smirked, waiting for her.

As he landed in front of her, she rose, smiling like him joining her more than made her day worth it. And when he wrapped his arms around her, she let out a cry. "Laurie, you're getting me mucky!!" she all but completely squealed out, but hugged him back regardless. As he kissed the top of her head, she laughed, immediately moving a hand up to fuss with her hair.

"Mmm, love, you smell like man," she decided with a wink as she slipped her hand into his and carefully made her way down the steps. "We'll not make it through lunch if you smell like that. You know what it does to me.." With a grin and a wink, she caught up with him, then slipped an arm around his waist.

He chuckled lightly, shaking his head as he draped his arm around her shoulders snugly. "Love, not that I'm complaining, but just about everything does that to you."

He winked, then paused to help her down the last few steps. So careful, so cautious.

"And who knows. If you can be good and control yourself for half an hour, you can come join me for a shower. After all, why else would I be so keen on getting you all... what was it? 'Mucky'?"

He grinned, squeezing her gently as they headed up toward the castle.

Oh, he had a point there. A simple look at her and she was like a tiger waiting to pounce. She couldn't help it! He was just that perfect of a fit for her, in more ways than one.

She absolutely adored the way he paused to help her down. It just made her feel so special.. so delicate, so fragile, so something worth protecting. A warm feeling spread through her - honestly, she had the best husband in the world, and he reminded her of it on a daily basis.

At his deal, she absolutely grinned. "Oh?" she asked, brows immediately lifting. "Aye, then you're on, love! I'll gladly behave if it means you'll reward me so!"

He chuckled again, his brow raising as he looked to her. His footsteps slowed slightly, as what he was about to say was not the sort of thing for young ears. Prolonging the moment that the stepped into the castle.

"How on earth," he began, tone somewhat amused, "did someone with your incredible thirst for the wicked hold off for so long?"

He was so amazed by that fact. It was incredible, of course, that his own sexual appetite barely had a chance to be worked up again before she was pouncing to sate it.

"Though I'm quite glad I could be the one to awaken it," he added quickly, grinning.
