I have been a resident of Gainesville for a week now, and finally feel somewhat settled. This distance from my family has provided a healthy disconnection. I snagged a piece of ivy yesterday behind some shop downtown and stuck it in a jar of water. It sprouted. Soon the ivy will take over. It should really grow everywhere.

I have an interview tomorrow with a French doctor in need of a nanny for a set of twins. Two baby girls, 13 months. I get to meet them tomorrow. The job is pretty much mine, and pays ridiculously well.

I had to have my silly car towed this morning. I took Eric to work, and as I was leaving the Brain Institute it just went out. I have a feeling it's a fuel problem. Had to have it towed, for fifty dollars I didn't want to spend. The lad who did the job was a character and dropped the car on the first try. That was a heart attack if I've ever had one. He has a room filled with 17 snakes at his house. I forgot how long he said the biggest one was, but it eats pigs. Something like 13ft? PIGS! It eats pigs. I hope the neighborhood children are obedient little things.

Life here has been better than it's ever been. It feels weird to say or write that I am doing well and well in love, but I find it only requires a deep breath.

I am going to be helping Eric with Global Health. It seems as though all of my training, or experience rather, has prepared me for this. Working with things like homelessness, and FoodNotBombs, or Habitat all seemed like GOOD things, but never good enough. Medical relief in third world countries...that really gets me going. After tonight's meeting I had a swarm of ideas that are looking really well. I'm sure I'll be using this space to plant some of them. NETWORKING. It's all about networking.

I hope the best for anyone reading this. My house is open to anyone passing through or wanting to visit Gainesville.
