So I think I tend to have the reputation of sort of a negative Nancy. It's probably true; I find it much easier to criticize things than to praise them. But in an attempt to become a much nicer person (or maybe just a less mean one) I'm going to make a list of everything that didn't suck about this year. Which will be easy because this year (2006) didn't suck that much at all. In fact, on further reflection, this may have been the best year of my life. Here's why.
1. Italy. Yeah, going to Italy and living there for four months and traveling around Europe definitely didn't suck.
2. Falling in love with Boyfriend. Or The Last Great Asshole Move of My Life. (I like to call it that because I stole him from someone totally unsuitable and inappropriate for society. Which is kind of assholey but not something I'm ashamed of. However, since I'm trying to be less mean I'm deeming it the end of my asshole life.)
3. Reuniting with Gay Husband and the reinstitution of Gayfest. I missed the gay and now it's back in my life with a vengence. Everyone's life is enhanced with Fairy Godfather and mine is the best.
4. Seeing almost all of the Philomafia this year and then having the reunion at my house in Tallahassee (5 days!). I was blessed to see Alexa, Paul, and Zeke twice (Athens and Tallahassee), Britt twice (Prague), and Becca once (San Francisco).
5. Gaining a new best friend in Brad. I couldn't have survived this summer without him.
6. Toxic people getting out of my life. That's kind of self-explanatory.
7. Going back to work. Money + feeding my OCD monster - boredom = a much happier existence.
8. Various forms of entertainment: House, Heroes, Top Chef, Project Runway, Deal of No Deal (yeah I know I'm lame), Flushed Away, Friends with Money, Little Miss Sunshine, Good Omens, Oryx and Crake, Poor Paul's ladies night.
9. Dean's list.
10. Applying to law school.
Granted there were some things that did suck about this year (namely Darby leaving me forever) but I'm trying to focus more on the good. I think it's a good list.
