They hadn't told anyone, but it was one of the worst kept secrets in the Club. There had been bets made in the back room as to when the two youth would be become official since the girl's thirteenth birthday. Everyone knew it, everyone but their elder brother. Although the greater superiors had little opinion in the mess (besides their bets of course) there were enough in power to want to give them a chance to be more properly alone.
Sam was sent off to Canada for a week or so, sent with a half dozen others to conscript, or kill the more animal, feral mutants of the north. Although no one ever said it, the price for a date within that week's tables had reason to double in price.
Personally, Jessica Guthrie (Or Jay-Bird as her friends and many others called her), was as unaware as her brother as to the money being lost and made on her actions. All she had to care about was the fact that Sam wasn't due home for two more days, and she found the keys to his precious truck. She was sixteen now, almost seventeen and considered herself a proper adult felt rather silly having to sneak out when no one was looking. She did however, and ran over to her practically adopted brother's room to knock in excitment.
"Ben! Ben come on! I've got something to show you!"
