Susan slept badly Sunday night, worrying about Jon, and woke Monday morning feeling queasy and dull. Rickon was in an awful temper. He wanted Father and wanted him now and Susan's explanation that he wasn't coming home right now got mixed up in his mind with her explanation as to why he couldn't have Uncle Peter, either, and she spent a good half hour correcting his misunderstanding and assuring him that yes, Father would be home in a little while but not for a few days but Uncle Peter was not coming back. Susan wasn't entirely sure she did the best job explaining, since he would ask for "Pee-tah?" or "Fa-da?" and then Susan would have to explain all over again, bringing on more tears and foot-stomping.
She finally got him calmed down, fed, and dressed, packed some of his clothes, diapers, and toys in a bag, and they set off on the path to Sansa and Caspian's with Shadow trotting along ahead. Susan hated to impose on Sansa again, but she didn't think right now was the best time for Rickon to see Jon. He would want to climb and jump on him and Jon couldn't handle that right now. They passed Caspian on the way in; he waved at Rickon but Rickon only hid his face in Susan's skirt and growled. Sansa and Eddara were at table having breakfast, and Eddara looked distinctly unhappy about her cousin visiting again today. "Ick," she said, putting down her toast and looking very put out.
"I'm sorry," Susan said, putting down Rickon's bag and scooping him up in her arms. "He's in an awful mood. I was trying to explain about Jon and then he was asking for Peter so I had to explain that too... and he got all confused and upset and it took forever to explain. Are you sure you don't mind?" she added hesitantly, bouncing Rickon on her hip. "I don't want to take him to the clinic, he'll be bored in five minutes... but I don't want to not go..."
