Susan knew there was something wrong when Shadow woke her before Rickon did, whining and pawing at the side of the bed. She got out of bed and pulled a robe on against the chill of the house, whispering to her wolf, "What's wrong, Shadow?" Shadow padded across the house to Lucy's room, scratching at the door and whining. Frowning, Susan opened the door and looked inside--but there was no Lucy. Her bed was still rumpled as if it had been slept in, but there was no sign of her.
"Lu?" she called, looking around the small house. She went to the front door and opened it, shivering against the blast of cold air, but the snow was smooth and unbroken, with only a snowed-over hint of Jon's footprints from the night before. There were no Lucy-sized footprints about anywhere.
Susan's stomach sank. She knew what this meant.
Again.
Shadow whined some more, and Ghost came sniffing round; though he made no sound he looked as distressed as Shadow. "Can you find her?" she asked the wolves--if it was an island trick they could track her, find her and help bring her back. Shadow continued to whine, but Ghost only laid down at the foot of Lucy's bed with his nose on his paws, looking somber.
[I'm going to put up a top level for Jon to tag, and then one for Edmund and Peter, so that things can end up chronological even if threading doesn't happen that way.]
