I wasn’t always this way;
This bombed out shell of
Worthless space.
Unable to realize the dreams I made
Unable to provide for the family I’d planned.
I was extraordinary once
Composed of muscle and fiber
Committed to that noble calling
Every fiber devoted to the plans I’d laid.
Something happened on the way to Here.
Some small part of me shriveled and died
Along with the compass I carried inside me.
Lost at sea
Tossed upon the waves
I contemplate the easy way
Lacking the courage to even carry out that plan
Even now
As I sit and cry
Unable to put two cohesive thoughts together
I long for something better.
