I'm all about episode 11 now. This is going to be a long one...
When I had a couple of cats around the house, they would sometimes get into mischief. You know how it goes. Maybe that plant needs to be eaten. Maybe I've got something on the table over there and the cat wants to see what's inside.
Then it was time for the Water Sprayer of Judgement. A misting of water, and he goes to do something else. It was effective… for awhile, anyway.
Boong-do has a Water Sprayer of Get Away From Hee-jin. I loved that scene. I realize I have yet to find a single thing wrong with this man… he comes from some fairy tale romance in which the prince is perfect in every way -- not perfect in that boring way that perfect can be, but perfect like "Wow, you just keep getting more awesome/sweet/intelligent/thoughtful by the moment, how do you do that?"
And Hee-jin, fighting against the plain truth of the world around her that this man doesn't exist… and then he does, and she's putting the pieces together, and she defies the judgement of people who think she's going insane, takes off her shoes and runs through the streets, finds a cab, shuts herself into the phone booth and tries the number. And he sees her because that's what fate is in stories like this, when it could be cheesy and cliche and instead I'm shouting at him to go down the hill already, she's in the phone booth.
And they both realize what a mess this is when no one else remembers all of it, and both try to take responsibility for straightening it out because they're healthy people looking out for each other.
And Boong-do's fighting skills extend beyond sword, to pillows and golfclubs and Water Sprayers of Get Away From Hee-jin. And locking Dong-min in the shower stall which is a nice callback.
As soon as Dong-min says to her "You know about my temper", I no longer care what happens to him. I mean already he pretty much ignores any signals, anything she actually wants to say... so his charm was wearing thin. But seriously.
Hee-jin has a wonderful sense of determination and purpose. Did I imagine it all? Will everyone think I'm crazy? Sure, maybe, but I'm going anway. Across town chasing possibility, standing firm and calm while Dong-min is shouting, taking responsibility to fix everything in an impossible situation.
I can't stop thinking about how good a physical actor Ji Hyun-Woo is. In this episode there are so many subtle things, like quirks of expression, a flash of smile, a moment of jealousy, whole worlds of charm and feeling in just a glance. The chemistry between them is still a living thing.
And also, my favorite drama kiss ever. Thanks, drama!
