I'm loving this show. The atmosphere, the characters (most of them), the music (most of it), the story. I'm beginning to think I might try watching the whole story (which I've never done with a long sageuk).
From the first episode, I know that Kim Chi-Yang and the Sa siblings (who are awesome) eventually fight with Honae... but something else is going on now. (Incidentally, if Kang Jo says something is wrong with the new visitors, I'd listen to him...)
In those ten years, he has never been out of my heart.
I loved the reunion (after ten years apart) between Seol and Prince Wanders-the-World. She's sitting playing the pipa he gave her when she hears his flute outside. Later they talk while the snow falls around them.
When it rained, I wondered whether we were walking in the same rain. When it snowed, I worried you might be cold. And when cold made my heart ache with yearning for you, I wondered if you yearned for me too.
He's pretending he doesn't feel the same, but the man is totally in love. I think he's going to realize it soon.
They actually pulled a Legend by having two of the characters fade into their older actors during a horse riding scene. With music playing. There's no way they didn't know.
The king, Honae's brother, is still a wrong, wrong man.
"I intend to... make Goryeo a country of moral virtue."
"Was it by these teachings that you took the infant son away from a sister who once saved your life?"
That's exactly what I was thinking when Kdrama Grandmother scolded him. I would have just called him a hypocrite, but Kdrama Grandmother is way cooler than I am.
Wow,
Soseono's father has become evil, conspiring with the utterly unhinged leader of the Silla faction. But most of the people around Honae are really interesting. Hyang-bi pretending to be Honae when the estate is invaded (that took courage). Kang Jo accompanying Honae every time she tries to see her son.
I'm still a bit in the dark about all the tribes up there around 1000 AD. You've got remnants of Balhae, apparently, along with Jurchen and Khitan people (Liao dynasty, which I met before in the Yang saga). Mostly they don't seem to be getting along very well.
I'm also a bit confused because of all the names and titles. Her name is Hwangbo Su growing up, then Honae, then Lady Sungdeok, and eventually Empress Cheon Chu. I've been calling her Honae when thinking about the show. She isn't particularly interested in Sungdeok anyway.
