when translation loses flavor
That scene with Guan Hong and Yelu Xie had another line that caught me. The English subtitle goes:
Just stay here with me tonight, enjoy the scene with me.
The Chinese subtitles:
只是安安静静地在这里陪我。。。陪我享受这月色。
Right away I saw something nice there at the end: "this moon color". It looks like that's another way of saying moonlight, but I couldn't get over him saying "enjoy the color of the moon with me"... that's what it looks like (and sounds like) anyway.
安安静静 was lost in translation too. "Peaceful, calm" but doubled. And he pauses. "Just peaceful here keep me company... keep me company and enjoy the moonlight."
Somehow, "enjoy the scene" isn't quite there. The more I learn, the deeper the dialog in these shows seems to be. More colorful, more lovely.
