Room 429, Monday Night

Apr 27, 2010 13:55

Edmund had the room to himself this evening and decided to sprawl on his bed and read a book. The problem was that it wasn't a terribly interesting book, but he was determined to sit and read something for fun, whether he was actually having fun or not, so he kept reading. Occasionally, he would hear something outside and glance up at the open ( Read more... )

Jo totally hadn't been avoiding Edmund over the past few weeks, just focusing on finals, yes.

But attempting to bite someone really was something that you needed to apologise for, so there she was hovering around the doorway. "Hey."

Edmund glanced up and the book was promptly forgotten. He hadn't been avoiding her either. He'd been busy was all, and not trying to avoid talking about Alan of Narnia showing up or his conversation with Rose at the Prom or anything of the sort.

"You're not going to punch me again, are you?"

Jo might have winced a little. "Are you going to call me stupid again? Because otherwise, no."

He sat up properly. "I wasn't a terribly nice person when I was seven. Not over the weekend and not the first time. I hope you won't hold it against me."

"I was a biter," Jo replied with a grimace. "I won't hold it against you if you don't hold it against me."

"I think we've come to an agreement then," he replied lightly. "Do you want to come in?"

"I would, yeah," Jo said, taking the chance to scope out Edmund's room as she came inside. "Nice room."

The room was plain and sparsely decorated, but it was much neater than you would think a room shared by two teenage boys would be. The beds were well-made, the clothes were away and even their shoes were in the proper place. "I'll be sure to tell Jon the compliment." He stayed sitting on the bed, but he swung his legs off the side. Shorts, a t-shirt and socks weren't what he was used to being seen in, so he felt a touch self-conscious, but not enough to be noticeable. This was a touch more awkward than he'd anticipated. "You survived the night after I banished you from my castle?"

"I swore revenge and tried to sic my attack dog on you," Jo replied, definitely not trying to discreetly check out Edmund's legs. "Of course he wasn't very much interested in attacking anyone."

"I'll have to thank Jet for not attacking me like the vicious beast he is. Has he been well?" Which was a roundabout way of asking if Jo had been well too.

"He's been good," Jo said. "A bit lonely by himself, though."

Roundabout answers were the best kind.

"I'm sorry I haven't been by." To see Jet, of course.

"Well, you know, he's been busy, otherwise he'd have come by earlier." Yup, only talking about the dog here.

"It's been a busy time," Edmund agreed, fingers drumming along the edge of the bed where he'd held on for something to do with his hands. "Since Prom," he added unnecessarily, "and that weekend. Exams and whatnot." The illusion that they weren't kidding themselves was fading fast.

"Exactly," Jo agreed. "No spare time to talk...about things." Unspecified things.

Apparently things that they were now in a position to have to talk about. Edmund stood up and moved to close the door. "Do you want to sit down?" It was hard to feel the confidence that a King of Narnia was supposed to feel when you were wearing shorts, but he was trying his best.
