Frisbee tournament this weekend. We put a strong team together and went to sectionals, to give us some experience up against excellent teams, and to play hard against some less challenging ones. We went 1-3 on the first day, losing against 3 large state schools; Western Illinois, Northwestern, and Chicago. We did beat Notre Dame's B team, though. None of our games, win or lose, were very close, but some of them were a lot of fun even so. I love frisbee tournaments. Especially when the weather's nice, and you're either playing hard or relaxing in the sun, watching some other team play hard. The next day, after being bumped down into an easier pool, we went 4 and 0, and ended up 13th over all. We went into it seeded 14th, so there's a pleasant little victory for EC.

Saturday though I noticed I had missed 2 calls from my dad, and his voicemail was a little cryptic. There's something I want to talk about, I think he said. So I called him, but when I told him I was in the middle of a frisbee game, he told me to call him later. I had it pretty much figured out by then, so I probed. I knew I didn't want to feel the weight of that uncertainty, so I decided that I had to ask him. It'll ruin your day, he warned me.

With the treatments and the encouraging words from his doctors we all figured that my grandfather had some more time, a few months at least. But its probably better this way, because cancer can drag out a painful end. A heart attack from complications of the cancer is shocking, but at least its sudden, and less painful.

So I'm home right now, and I will be until Thursday. If you don't see me around this week, that's why.
