Seen this process going on for quite a while... Part of the international high class trying to be friendlier to Russia and its audience than their own governments. Gave me puzzles as it's people from various sectors, not only one industry. Kind of made you think "Well, does the East now pay better than the West (they got money and rich oligarchs there too to pay you for services and appearance on events, never forget)?" or what? But never got smart about it in detail.
Yep, Russian ones have as much money to match some Western. But Russian are flashier. They are a bit like Trump, like gold and something glitsy and kitchy. Bad taste. Plus to them stars like that are exotic. The western ones probaby hang out with any stars for social events here and there. Just freaking pathetic. Both parties.
Kind of made the only really logical explanation for that to me. Russian oligarchs - and in general: the Russian market - got tons of money too, and, who the hell cares if dancing for some celebrity friend's birthday party, Gaddafi's or doing that for a Russian mogul? "Money doesn't stink", as they say here If that market is able to offer more money than the own sector before, well, what does one guess where they gonna play? It's just like with the soccer players. The one who offers the most, that's the one to get you and your services.
Otherwise, now in less sarcastic tone: What does really speak against being present on the Eastern market for media and entertainment? Actually nothing. American movie stars and musicians are famous everywhere, even in Russia. They also pay to see them in their own movies and cheer when they walk on the red carpet. Nothing that much really different than at home.
