1.12: Violet

So, for those not-in-the-know, my favorite musical is Violet. No, I can't tell you why. It just is. After rehearsal today (Which was in Bartenders living room, by the way) Bartender, Russian, Wife, R, D, and I stayed for a bit to chat and catch up, and in Russian and Bartender's case, have a few drinks - Wife, R, and I were all driving. So Russian and I were talking, and I mentioned that I had had D listen to Violet on the drive over and I ran one of my pet staging ideas by him. He liked it, pointed out potential flaws which I explained my thoughts to, and he liked it. We got into another discussion on The Show versus The Process, and he said I think like a director. Then he said Well, we'll see if we can't work it out to do Violet as the summer show next year or the year after and you can be part of it. I grinned. I think he's kind of serious, but he and I both know that other members of the Company (Frenchie, for instance) might not be so open to the idea. Of the show, not of me working on it. I think. Anyway, then Bartender, Russian, Wife and I began discussing the Tonys, which I have not yet seen because I crashed at 6 PM last night and did not wake up until 10 AM this morning, before D and I had to leave.

Also, after I showed everybody 'Front Loading Washer' in the BSH, Girl-in-the-Company (who sometimes reminds me of someone from school, and will be coincidently also playing Jackie O in Russian's House of Yes) and I  got into a discussion about Gel Colors. I'm sorry, but you are not allowed to have a favorite color as "Bastard Amber" because that is too trite. The only good thing about Bastard Amber, besides that it actually is a somewhat useful color, is that it's Lee counterpart is Fatherless Amber. Other than that, her favorite color is Surprise Pink, because Surprise! It's actually Lavender, something which the College!Lighting kids are amused by and have gotten over, and one of them is still frustrated with. My personal favorite is Sketon Exotic Sangria, half for it's name, and half for it's really saturate pink. I have used it in both of the shows I lit this year (one a dance piece and one a theater piece on a rep plot -- in my defense of the rep plot, I offered each designer a chance to pick a sidelight color.) (It was kind of a wonky sidelight situation. If you're really curious, ask.) However, the graduating senior class made me really gleeful when I entered our Banquet room and found all the toplight color as R39.

I sometimes wonder who's decision that was...
