Today marks a day of accomplishment. I am once again in the best shape of my life. It would be nice to be able to continue saying that with each sequential day until eternity, but that's a stretch. Today marks a day of triumph. Triumph over the meaningless hardship I was forced into when my leg was all but torn to shreds. Today marks a day of inspiration. I am confident now in my abilities and will take on Mt. San Jacinto and Mt. Whitney in the summer. Today I ran a 5k in 19:27. This is by no means a competitive time; my 16 year old brother has ran the same distance in almost 2 minutes less. This is a personal best. This is my body telling me that progress has been both possible and present. That as a 22 year old I am more fit than I was as a teenager, which is uncommon amongst many of my peers. In exasperated fatigue, I checked my watch after I crossed the crack in the road that marks the end of my 3.1 mile route and discovered that not only had I achieved my goal of a sub-20 minute 5k, but I'd surpassed it by 33 seconds. That's 47 seconds better than my previous best time.
Also, last week I ran 2 miles in less than 12 minutes. My time was actually 11:59. That was quite an achievement as well. Two consecutive 6-minute miles. I am so glad about this. I have boasted only to my roommate and to my brother, but now I must mark the pages of my journal so that I may remember this indefinitely and gloat to myself freely! Yay!
