Football Game

This past weekend, my piano and organ teacher from high school, Dan Labar, came to town for the Lions game. They were playing the Chicago Bears, his favorite team as he grew up in Chicago, and the tickets were cheaper here than in Chicago. We got tickets for $75 each and the price was $250 each in Chicago! He stopped on the way to where he now lives in Elmira, NY after visiting his sister and brother-in-law in Chicago and stayed Saturday night at Dr. Gena's. We had a great time. It was my first NFL game in person! The Lions have a new high-tech indoor stadium, Ford Field, and the place was really neat. The game was close most of the way. The Bears took a 20-10 lead in the first half, but Lions fought back to tie it at 20. The Bears, however, pulled away in the end and won by a score of 37-23. The Lions are still god-awful and finished the season at 2-14. The Bears were already eliminated from playoff contention and, but I think they had to win to give coach Lovie Smith any chance of keeping his job. There was an incident during the game where fan ran onto the field with both middle fingers up and ran the full length of the field before being caught by security! It was funny. I am glad for Dan that he didn't have to face the embarrassment of his team losing to the lowly Lions. The Lions were not the worst team this year. The Rams went 1-15 and get the first draft pick. The Giants were already eliminated from playoff contention and got killed by the Vikings 44-7. They are pathetic. They had better get things together next year. The NY Jets beat the Cincinnati Bengals in the last game at Giants Stadium and made the playoffs. They play the Bengals again next week, this time in a playoff game in Cincinnati. The Packers and Cardinals reprise their final game of the season which the Packers won 33-7 next week as do the Cowboys and Eagles which the Cowboys won 24-0 at home. Both games are in the same venues as last week. It is the first time that so many playoff games are rematches of the final week of the regular season. I am excited for the playoff season in which I will root for the Jets!
