I just got some spam that contains text which makes me strongly suspect that some person or spider is pulling text from my LJ and sending it to me in a spam (along with girl pictures or something that mutt doesn't display), in order to get past my spam filters.
this has me thinking (again).
it would be cool if LJ (and maybe other sites) could block/firewall blocks of IP addresses that are known to harbor spammers. seems to me that LJ could cooperate with some reputable RBLs (like spamcop), and temporarily and/or permanently block IP addresses and/or blocks of IP addresses belonging to any ISPs that aren't taking care of the abusers. This would provide pressure to the ISPs to start taking care of problems and help reduce the practice of spammers scraping web sites for target information. it'd be worth looking into at least.
