I'm such a fucking idiot

No one ever told me before that it wasn't a good idea to leave your car window down even the slightest bit, but looking back now it makes perfect sense why you should never do that. You see, I always thought that as long as the crack wasn't large enough for anyone to fit their hand into that everything would be all right. Now I realize that all anyone needs is a hanger, a crowbar, a friggin' measuring stick, or anything else small enough to fit into a crack that size to push down on the window handle so that the crack BECOMES large enough for a hand to fit inside.

They took our car stero ($125), our CD's (a few hundred dollars), a sunglasses case, and my leather gloves that were a Christmas gift ($50). But more importantly they took my military ID and a packet from my insurance company that may or may not have had some policy information on it. So now they have my name, my birthdate, my SSN, my picture, and possibly information about my car.

I don't know what to do. I called the cops and am waiting to make a report. I called work to let them know that I will be late. I will call the ID office as soon as they open to tell them to cancel my ID. I will call my insurance company as soon as I can to ask them for advice, and I will call my bank soon after that to find out how most fraud starts, just in case. I have no idea if they would even use my information that way, and what they could find out about me if they did try to use my information fraudulently because I have no clue how smart they are or what databases they know how to get into. I just don't know... I'm hoping I'm hoping I'm hoping that they are just small-time. Otherwise they would have taken the whole car, right? God, I hope so.
