McCain & Threeways

Sep 08, 2008 09:39

See the LJ icon? Thanks epeolatry was kind enough to make it for me. Right after John McCain encouraged us all to "teach an illiterate adult to read," the camera panned to this guy. Like I said, it shows that Republicans are either a.) incredibly stupid or b.) unable to look out for their fellow Republican. I go for choice b here because anyone can make a spelling error but it takes a real pack of douchebags to not gently say to the guy, "hey Mike, your sign is wrong, let's fix it so you don't look like an ass on TV." Then again, maybe it was purposefully spelled incorrectly in the spirit of the RNC-made, "home-made" signs that dotted the RNC.

As a future teacher I am personally insulted that he simultaneously:
1.) Believes that the solution to unemployment and outsourcing is to train American workers for new jobs, to provide more Americans with access to higher education and ...
2.) Blasts Barack Obama for being "elite" based on the fact that he has a top-notch education and used that education to get ahead in life and ...
3.) Makes no mention about how he will FUND all of this extra educational opportunity and put money into educational systems where teachers send home "wishlists" of the most basic supplies (i.e. paper, pencils, toilet paper) because their schools lack proper funding.

You can't have it three ways Mr. McCain ... you know, unless you send Cindy out to find a willing third partner. Oh wait, that's a different kind of threeway. Anyway, you know what I mean. Education is important, it doesn't just help the financial health of an American worker but it also helps the mental/spiritual health to learn something. And you know who understands that? Mr. Barack "Elite" Obama who has seen first-hand how important education can be to a person.

Edited to add one of my favorite quotes on the subject of education's impact on mental health:

The best thing for being sad is to learn something. That is the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may miss your only love, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honor trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then-to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, ever fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the thing for you.
